Download and share Cubasis MiniSampler instruments here!

edited October 2016 in General App Discussion

The new MiniSampler in Cubasis has the potential to really expand the possibilities within Cubasis. Use this thread to share instruments you've made, download ones other people have made, and discuss the whole process.

To share an instrument from Cubasis tap on it in the Media Bay, then tap the share button and send it to Dropbox. When it asks if you want to zip the file tap Yes. Once the zip file is in your Dropbox account copy the share link to this thread. Include a brief description or sound clip of the instrument when sharing it here to give people an idea of what the instrument is.

Also, when sampling make sure you have the legal right to share any samples used! Check the source of those samples to find out. If they are from a company who is still selling the samples or hardware then they probably are not available for sharing.

To download an instrument use the links below within iOS, and tap on the Download button in the upper right corner, then Direct Download, then tap on the "Open in..." link and select Cubasis.

@1P18 I like this idea, and your kit, a lot, so thanks and thanks!
    Here's one I made https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/31084787/Imp.cbi
Drum kit assigned to the stock pads (I hope)
Play loud, the samples are processed with limiter / compression

  • You can also email a project which uses your instruments and open it in Cubasis.

  • I haven't created any but will share once I do. Great idea!

  • I thought of starting a thread like this, too. Looking forward to what you folks come up with. As for me, I'm finally getting around to sampling some of the toys I have lying around here— starting with the stylophone, then on to the reed organs. It will be nice to be able to use them when the mood hits.

  • Yes @Paul is on the nose.. Until Cubasis make "open in" work for instrument .cbi files it would be far more useful for anyone posting an instrument to make a blank project in cubasis just with the name of the instrument then put it on Dropbox or wherever ... Then we can just use "open in" straight from Dropbox or wherever we have downloaded to .. Rather than that long defunkt itunes malarkey..
Official Request!! For steinberg to implement that for instruments... BUT also, for anyone that didn't notice it, or incase this tip didn't surface on the forum yet... you can use "open in" of a zip file of multiple samples to get them all in to cubase at once... Good for stems but also I use audioshare to gather a drumkit together then zip it and use OPEN IN to get them into Cubasis all at once.. Then it's a snip to drag them onto seperate keys in the mini sampler... But of course , you already knew that!!!
Quick test below of a simple MR10 drumbox just to see if that theory works..

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/y3nu0h6uonc6v8q/Instrum email.zip?dl=0

  • @RockySmalls you'll need to create a midi track for each instrument you want to use, add a midi note to the track, freeze the track, share the project to Dropbox, then use open in to Cubasis, open up the project on the other device in Cubasis and the instruments in the sampler should be there. If you don't freeze the tracks, the instrument will be there but have no samples.

  • Aha! Stands to reason it wouldn't be so simple ... Bring on "open in" :)
But here is another try .. I froze ... Then unfroze the track... That may be wrong.. Do you need to keep the track frozen to embed the samples??

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/pdskwnnzmoc2ly1/Mr10 inst email.zip?dl=0

  • Here with the instrument still frozen... No difference in Size to the zip file..

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/5fztl8hx3pt7p1z/Mr10 inst email froze.zip?dl=0

  • I must admit that i have never used Dropbox seriously and still not sue how it is best used!
If you create a folder with samples in to share is it safe to give permission for public use?
The idea of having to continually attach the PC to the iPad to enable iTunes for file sharing seems a bit tedious.

It is also possible to 'share' an instrument directly to DropBox from Cubasis.

Just 'drag' the instrument you want to share to the 'Share' icon in the MediaBay, select 'DropBox'.

Cubasis will ask if you wan't to zip the file to reduce amount of data to be uploaded.

To share the uploaded *.zipped instrument, move the the file to the DropBox's 'Public' folder and copy the link. Like this...

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7548740/Testing123.zip

(It's just me saying Testing 1,2,3 (4 samples) using a silly voice, remix and reuse if you feel like it :D)

Click the Link and select 'Open In..' and 'Open In Cubasis' to import the instrument, it will be copied to MiniSampler/My Instruments.

(If you can't see Cubasis in the list, tap the More button far right, there it's also possible to 're-order' the app list).

That's all there is to it :)

  • Damn! That's so much easier.... Looks like steinberg has implemented "open in" for everything!! Except you have to zip the files for it to work... Tanks @Samu , now I will see if zipping it up will work on @littlewoodg instrument...

Here's the mr10 drumbox the 'easy' way , @Nu2moro .. Don't be afraid.. The public Dropbox links are just to individual files.. I,m pretty sure people can't peek at yr stuff.. And even of it were possible Only in the public folder you set... You get 2 gigs free and a lot of apps use it... Argggghhh enough.. I'm not here to sell it.. But I use it a lot for transfering etc..

@RockySmalls It's good idea to 'skip' the ?dl=0 in the link, as it just opens the DropBox.app adding an extra step :)

  • Aha! @1P18 And @Littlewoodg Both instruments work by zipping up in audioshare and using 'open in'
Thanks and Great stuff... Sharing without itunes can commence!!

  • @Samu ... More info... Useful indeed... Not that I have anything against the Dropbox app ... But a direct download is certainly better... Will use that tip from now on..

  • I will have to dig out some old sample cd's I recall having for my Enax and Roland S50. They sounded pretty good then but they may have changed in the passage of time! ;-)
Thanks for the tips on Dropbox .-)

  • The 'Cubasis' WiFi Server is also quite handy for managing files stored in Cubasis.
It's turned on/off in Setup -> Mixdown/Share and WiFI Server.

I do however wish that Steinberg would some day allow us to create folders as it can easily turn into a mess when importing loads of samples, instruments and other files. It would also be handy to be able to select multiple files for deleting, sharing or 'moving'. Selecting and deleting multiple files at once is already possible when using the WiFi Server, it's the quickest way to clean up the 'mess' caused recording multiple of samples when creating instruments :D

If you post an instrument, maybe include a brief description.

    and a sound bite :-)

  • Just an idea, but I wonder if Seb would put a AudioBus User Sound Samples in the categories section for us all? So if we uploaded our samples(Copyright Free mind)/ Drum Riffs/ Basslinelines, ect. So we could download them with, say.....Good Reader for example, blah! Blah!.... As long as they are not from a Copy Protection!...

Thanks @Samu this is the stuff! And I though I'd RTFM!
Thanks @RockySmalls and @Maarten for the kits, ultra tasty

  • @Samu thanks I have updated the first post to make it all through Dropbox, much much easier. I'll also periodically update the first post with all the new instruments added. @Littlewoodg if you could upload again with the new process I'll add yours to the first post as a zip file.

    No problem. https://www.dropbox.com/s/tedbroqtc7j5eme/imp.zip?dl=0

    Thanks for this thread @1P18!
Thanks for adding some fun to my life with Cubasis!

  • @Littlewoodg All good! Hopefully we'll see many more added to the list.

  • To 'speed up' the process of getting the instruments into Cubasis I'd suggest that we remove the '?dl=0' from the DropBox URLs. This way we get the 'Open In...' dialog almost instantly in Safari once we click the zip-link instead of having to wait for the iPad to open the DropBox.app or having our mac/pc web-browser being re-directed to the DropBox site :)

    Exellent!!! Thanks!

  • I am trying for later to upload a yamaha psr-60 calliope / oboe one.

    Removed sampled inst.

  • @Bootsy I forgot to add this step to the instructions, and have since added it: The zip file needs to be in the Public folder in your Dropbox account, and then the link shared from there. That link you gave goes to a folder rather than the file.

Also, are they straight samples from Kontact? If so not sure how legal that is, to just share samples like that by basically moving them to another sampler. My guess is it's not.

  • Whoops! Sorry bout that on both accounts. @1p18

Here's 3 more drumkits, really one kit of 48 samples spread across three instruments (that's how I use them anyway: open the three kits in a project and dig around until the rage or lust or what have you is soothed). These samples are sourced from sample sets that are legal for your use only if you play them very loud.

Edit: play with the release times, there are a few samples hidden in here of several seconds duration...
