Matter how YOUR APPS LOOK?
Visually. The aesthetics. Attention to detail.
I notice a trend for the "minimalist" graphic apps. I get it. I know style and design.
However, some apps just seem unfinished anymore. The apps abilities don't match the visuals.
It's like putting a Lamborghini engine in a Nissan Maxima. Yeah, it may run but who wants to spend the money to use some old looking vehicle to enjoy the performance.
I am not a gamer. But, I notice that as time goes on games are advancing in the graphics as well as the depth of programming and technology. I would think that would make sense for all digital activities in the IOS music world.
Do you like your apps to look good? The sexy design as well as the killer function.
Kind of crossed my mind lately.
Comments
I prefer the app to be effective more than anything. If graphics slowed down or limited the performance of the app, I'd consider that a hindrance.
Are you saying that graphics slow down performance and ability of apps?
Someone should tell Sugar Bytes..................................................cuz they doin' quite well at it
You're forgetting the keyword "if"...
I was talking in a hypothetical context. There's not necessarily a universal truth to this stuff.
That's why I "asked" a question and not made a affirmative claim.
I wanted to know what you knew.
It has to be a good app first of all as in a good app regardless of the looks but once it is established that the app is indeed good then the looks start to matter because you'll be spending time looking at it.
One of the big differences between game app development and music app development is the size of the market and consequently the resources available to develop apps. Some apps are developed by small teams or individuals with limited time and resources. For many of the music developers, they may be much more focused on the sound rather than visual elements whereas for video games they're essential. Given these realities, it's not too surprising many music apps don't have good visual design.
Nice design is good but ultimately so long as it doesn't interfere with using the app, it's not a deal breaker for me.
I mean if there were 2 apps that are equally good but one is better looking... I don't need to finish that.
It does to me in the sense that I can relate to imitation 3d keys and sliders and buttons better than to flat ones.
One mans good design is another mans skeuomorphic nightmare. Persinally I look for usability and clean design first, and a workflow that won't get in the way of functionality, and good looks second.
You asked: "Do you like your apps to look good?"
I answered (paraphrased): "Looks are secondary to the app running smoothly, and looks should never take priority over smooth (i.e. not choppy) function."
This is another day in semantics paradise.
Someone should make the first iOS app which is skinnable. But i think apple wouldn't allow it?
I care about design & look...
Take the amazing music-app Caustic as an example, sounds fantastic, very powerful, but, looks aweful!
That's why I'm not use it :-(
As an opposit, Korgs iM1 for iPad, look good and sounds amazing! A killer design if I may say!
Of course, it's matter! Steinbergs Cubasis look good too. Propellerheads Figure & Thor is also in the highest division!
@CalCutta Maybe RusiK was asking if there is such a case among iOS music apps. I'd like to know that. For example - would Cyclop have less lag if it had a flat design? Cyclop and Egoist are 2 apps with noticeable latency on my iPad 4, but it could be something other than the graphics for all I know.
I find with the iPad the aesthetics of the app has a lot to do with it's playability as an instrument-
In a word... yes
Looks matter
I wouldn't think so, unless the graphics are animated or you have to switch pages regularly once they're loaded they shouldn't affect latency.
You are right on. I am asking many questions in this 1 post. number
Your mention of performance issues of previously purchased apps based on appearance is certainly a important point. Although, I have no issues with any Sugar Bytes on IPad Airs.
I find appearance is a key indicator of many positive things. I am not talking about 3D intricacies and animation, I am talking basic labelling and clarity if it is button or knob or just a colored shape on the screen.
Many bands that didn't have the right look, never became the it bands. Like it or not, visuals are important. The hallmark of many memorable concerts or night clubs are the music AND the visuals for me. And not just the hallucinations. (kidding)
Not really.
I understand some on here are "all bout der music" and don't care if its a blank screen with a line on it.............I get it. Very predictable.
I am interested to see the feedback and wonder how many developers feel visuals are as important as the users.
Thanks for that.
There are some learnin' goin on
For me an app must be user friendly and looks come at second place.Have several synths that look fantastic but are a pain to use.
I'm sure someone will say "user friendly is a matter of opinion and subjective" --------- but, I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN.
…when you’re poking the fire.
I like the librarian look. Glasses. Hair in a bun. Good understanding of post-modern poetry. Woolen skirt. Might have a cat.
Got to admit I'd probably use Molten more if it wasn't so hard on the eyes. On the flip side those beautifully rendered synths in Gadget are so inviting to play with.
As long as it's not librarian buns and a wooly cat under the skirt......................................
Do you like apps naked? Come on, even Enkl is lacking for me, you be the judge!
I this is mor> @Kaikoo said:
Exactly!!!!
Sounds amazing -- unfortunately NOT 1 control is even labeled and it is so not only MONO phonic but nearly MON)-CHROMATIC.
Great example. Perfect example.
Exactly, that this is horses for courses. I love the look of the Klevgrand apps.
For me, it's not just the look, but also the feel of pushing buttons and sliders around.
Klevgrand its not only the look, but how you can play with the look. He brings interfaces to the next level. Also Samplr....Love It
