I have yet to ever get the tap and hold to select multiple points to work. If someone has successfully done it maybe you could post a video? I must be missing something.
@mrufino1 ... It's the double tap. I just tried it the first time too, as I am learning real-time along the questions;)
My point was not that the fabfilter plugins are no good or unnecessary. But any effect only does what it's told. So if someone buys pro-q and boosts a bunch of bands by 15db, it will do it well but doing that probably will not do well musically.
I love pro-q, I love pro-c, I love old timer, timeless, echo, Saturn, vintage warmer, chan comp, drumagog, etc, and own every one of those. But, could I do a good recording without them? Absolutely, as long as I can make a good song and put mics in the right spot with the right players (if you're electronic based, substitute the appropriate such as knowing how to program a synth well to get good sounds).
So, before reaching for your wallet, buying pro-mb with the question "will it make my music sound good," ask instead, "do I have a problem to solve that requires multiband compression?" If the answer is yes and you know how to use one, then pro-mb will be great. If you say "my kick drum sounds bad, let me get pro-mb, I hear it has a good kick preset" I guarantee disappointment.
@kaikoo, I am not implying you don't know your tools, good tools in the right hands are magic. I bought a relatively nice drill a few months ago, I still drilled a hole in the wrong spot on something I was trying to work on.
In a show of irony, I just got an email with this article:
http://therecordingrevolution.com/2015/07/20/the-tale-of-two-mixes-or-how-doing-less-gives-you-more/
No, My hehe is for satisfaction expression! I like ambient environmental sound and quiet IDM type track, sort of new age with synths. I tend to think Pro-MB as a type of auto balancer to keep reverb spacey with mid side stereo things! I am quite satisfied with iPad to have opportunities to understand my inner music fantasy. My recent new found of ambient things is Nave to work midiLFOs. What a great combo by adding the Fabfilter! Just wait the Auria Pro to sequence midi.
@crzycrs Thanks - i'll give it a try.
The difference between normalize and pro L is pretty huge. Normalize is not terribly smart about what it does. It's a boost. Pro L provides ways of rounding, (not the best term, but will do,) what you are doing. The interface also really shows you what you're doing, and you can adjust parameters while you're listening.
I'm not wealthy. But these prices, I probably spend more being lazy and buying lunch in a month instead of packing it, then the cost for a couple of plugins. And this is a hobby for me, so I enjoy learning and playing with good stuff. So, per some comments above, do I expect them to make my stuff magic? Not at all. But it's small potatoes, to get really first class stuff.
@crzycrs @mrufino1 - yep... it's just double tap and then hold and swipe your finger left or right.
If you're on 'audio' then this lets you cut/copy bits of audio - but if you have switched to view the automation curve then it lets you select a portion of automation (although the little handles don't go white which ideally you'd expect them to).
Anyhow, once you've slected all or some of your automation you can hit the standard delete button at the top of Auria and it will delete all those automation points. That's a real time saver - so thanks @crzycrs
At this point I thought - ooooh - does that mean I can copy and paste automation curves too... That would be great for turning on 3 turnado effects at the same time without having to record or draw in all 3. In fact it would be great for a ton of things... But sadly, you don't seem to be able to copy and paste a bunch of automation points - but you can delete them.
Just to add to what others have said, but maybe with a bit more clarity:
if you double-tap in the timeline somewhere, and then drag, you will notice a blue region being drawn. Drag that region around the stuff you want to select, and then in the toolbar tap on the "Select Highlighted" button, that will convert your marquee into an actual selection.
Good point Mr ufino1(?) both your preceding comment and the blog post are well worth thinking about. And, like Mr Goodyear said elsewhere, sometimes it's better just to concentrate on the bits you are capable in, rather than trying to be be the whole of the industry.
Thanks Richard... but does that work for automation points? It doesn't seem to. Once you press 'Select HL' the marquee disappears and nothing appears to be selected at all.
Second question, can you copy and paste a set of automation points?
It should work with automation points, I'm pretty sure it did for me as recently as this morning. I don't think you can copy and paste them.
@Jocphone, it's Mark Rufino, mrufino
noted.
I confirm that you can select and delete automatisation points, but you can't copy/paste them.
With the sale going on to August 1, I'd like to mention one thing I enjoy with timeless2: to midi-learn its controls via cc to xy pads.
Since I let go of a physical pad, mapping them to another iphone or ipad has been my accustomed way to go.
Touchable mini especially covers at least three pairs of the automatable parameters there are on a x and y axis, saturn or volcano as well, and with nlog or chordpolypad, for example, with apollo over bluetooth, there's the opportunity to remotely influence auria while singing or playing guitar.
I am enjoying this approach because it comes closest to perform kaoss-pad style
While it can be tricky to midi-learn the respective axis of a pad surface, it's probably most convenient to change one temporarily to a different value, while assigning, to circumvent this.
This is the balance of what I've taken from this last round of really excellent discussions. This board at its progressive, positive best.
I am a little better than I was, but the more I begin slowly to know, am able to implement, the more I long to sit at the shoulder of someone who has refined their chops and see what they do, how and why and when.
Or just hire them
I made an awesome album on a 8 track analog cassette and mixdown to cd. Showed it to a friend at Westlake studio in Santa Monica and asked him what he thought. Well in short he was blown away!
All I used was a nanocompressor, and the Alesis Wedge. Moral of the story, it's what we do and how w do it with what we have that matters in the end. The final product. Of course having fun tweaking from beginning to end is super fun too!
The recorder I used by the way was the Tascam 688 Midistudio.
What an awesome machine!
Does anyone know if it should be possible to route audio through Auria with apps like audiomux to use it like an fx insert? I know you can route stuff through Auria with AB but i'm having issues with audiomux in AB. I'm thinking about maybe picking up some of the apps for use with audiomux but they only run in Auria so...
@musikmachine, yes, it's doable, but you might encounter setbacks with it as it's a little messy still...
Running it now after updating to the new servers, on the computer daw's audiotrack you open the effect plugin, on the ipad in the audiomux app you select auria master for 'receiving from', and then in auria's channelstrip you scroll and select from the available inserts the 'Channel 1' option for 'sending to', and then in the remaining rows your preferred effects.
(Or auria aux respectively.)
Only a few days left. Trying to decide between Pro-L and buying lobster rolls for lunch.
@johnnygoodyear Best of both worlds- pro-L and lobster rolls...as I was driving back last week, passed a McDonald's billboard in Worcester, MA for lobster rolls. They HAVE to be good, right? ;-)
For those who have both Pro-Q in Auria and Audio Mastering (or Final Touch)... Does Pro-Q really bring something to the sound that the two others can't ?
Yes. If you were to only buy one auria plugin at all, pro-q would be it. Very easy to use and more flexible than the channel strip eq (which is also great). Plus, it lives in auria, as opposed to needing IAA or audiobus to use it.
Downtown Damriscotta a couple of days ago....
Love this pic, what a great pic!
Please please please tell me you've never tried them!!!
I'm sure I read somewhere that their Fillet 'o Fish was made from cows, though it might have been a dream
Alright thanks i won't buy them for that purpose then but i'll have to see if i can get it working with Auria beforehand cause i was having some problems with getting the audio to pass through Auria and back into Live...
Just tested and it works, thanks for the setup info but Live has been crashing randomly when i use audiomux.
Mmmmm, McSeacow.
That's exactly what makes me hesitate to buy plugins in Auria : the fact that they're "Auria only apps". I asked devs at Fabfilter about upcoming AUs in iOS9 and I've been answered that they're "looking the AU support with interest"... As I prefer (for now and certainely until Auria Pro's release) working with Cubasis, maybe I should keep my money a couple of months more...
