Jordantron and Cubasis, The Rick Wakeman Project

I love prog rock and I've wanted to do something like this with Jordantron for ages and I do love Rick Wakeman, so this piece is called "The Haunting Of Sally Caster" and it's in the style of Rick Wakeman, I wish I had half the talent of Jordan Rudess or Rick Wakeman

  • Great. I've got the same love affair with Jordanton...

I also love it through ChirdPolyPad! The sounds are made for ginormous chords.

  • Excellent playing. Next you'll have to do a concept album. :)

  • It's neat you did a prog track. Not many people are doing it anymore. It reminds of the Wakeman solo albums with the medieval titles.

  • Love it, Doug! :)

I too am a great fan of Rick Wakeman and Prog in general - and there are still many bands performing in this genre. Great track, no doubting its influences! I am very tempted by Jordantron, but it is huge and I am tight on space, so it will have to wait for when I get my iPad Pro later this year (here's hoping!).

Who is making new prog? That's great!

  • There are many! Just that they don't get any media coverage. Check out Magenta, IQ, Spock's Beard, Neal Morse, Transatlantic, Mostly Autumn just for starters!

  • @PhilW Thanks I made a new playlist. Great album covers!

  • My personal fave "new prog" band is Big Big Train.
    They are incredible!

  • Love that. Very nicely done. Huge fan of Yes, huge fan of Wakeman. And @yowza, I'm an old guy, friend turned me on to Big Brig Train last year. Brilliant stuff. Also recently got into Kamelot. Their latest album, and the Black Halo album, are wonderful stuff.

  • You all may be interested to know that Colin Powell AKA AlterEgoUK now has the whole project and is going to be adding some of hie prog rock magic to it

  • That's cool AlterEgo is going to collaborate with you. It's neat to hear all of this great music being made.

  • Big Big Train - yes, very good! There's also a guy called Peter Jones who has produced an album called Cocoon under the name Tiger Moth Tales - different and probably not for everyone, but I can't stop playing it, it is based around childhood and growing up, and it gets me emotionally every time! As I said, there are so many...

  • Here is the result of my collab with Doug on this. (posted in it's own thread in Creations too!)

This started out as a demo from Doug Woods of The SoundtestRoom for a synth app called Jordantron in the style of Rick Wakeman, which was brilliant.

However, I thought it may also sound great as a full Prog Rock piece, so Doug very kindly sent me the Cubasis project and I added Drums (Bismark bs-16i). Bass (Cubasis Fingered Bass) and Guitar (through Jamup Pro).

It was a wapping 24 tracks in the end. Mixed in Cubasis and Mastered in Audio Mastering.

Stand by for a possible album based around this but we could be some time! :)
