Alchemy: BEST app of all time
I would hard pressed not to think otherwise.
I have the Minimal, Dance, and Dub packs along with a personal library of custom presets consisting of about 60 amazing sounds.
It has the quality string and acoustic instruments of a Thumb Jam or Sampletank (great in my opinion),great drum loops and drum kits that rival most drum apps, and synth sounds that are full of classic and cutting edge sounds. The bass sounds are crushing and complicated. Freakable wobble dips to smooth acoustic ARPs. What other apps can you created PLAYABLE sampled custom sounds with such diverse parameter adjustments?
The user interface is flawless IMHO.
How many other apps can you do an entire 4 track song/loop on 1 page? That includes a matrix of finger controlled parameters and effects that is ergonomically concise. Specifically, for those of us who use Novation Launchkey MIDI keyboards. It seems to have been designed for it the app or vice versa.
It works great on the phone as well!
I DO WISH it took up less space, but even models have to take smell shits.
It is really a marvel of an app. It keeps me fully excited till this day.
This is my opinion - before the "this thread is subjective you don't speak for me" bullshit posts.
I am looking on speaking to the choir of those who agree with me or informing others about the app. I don't care to hear opposite opinions today. I am in a dictator or tyrannical mood. This shall pass. (just kidding) (kind of)
Comments
it is a really nice app, indeed.
Yeah, Alchemy is like Figure on roids. ADORE it!!
Alchemy "IS" one of the best apps. I really, really hope Apple will eventually continue its production on IOS(& probably integrate it into there Logic/GarageBand DAW)as they now own the rights now? But I don't want to go into an old thread as before.
I agree it used to be pretty good until it's untimely demise. I hardly touch it any longer though. Gadget and IM1 get a lot of attention as do nave , Animoog and Sunrizer. Once Alchemy was abandoned it lost most of it's appeal for some odd reason.
But you still have it, right?
Gadget. Just sayin'
I kept it on one of my iPads but will end up deleting for space eventually if Apple does not pick up support for it. It does take a lot of room for something that seldom gets used.
I think the reason Alchemy separates itself is the ability to add presets and program on the phone for later.
I also like I can get an idea down quick.
Gadget is a temporal goblin. (which is a good thing if I have time)
The drum patches are good. The pads are great. It is a great app.
I certainly can't think of a more useful synth on the phone.
Yes Alchemy falls way short of Gadget I must say also, and it is still supported quite nicely
in fact
Alchemy is probably my favorite iPad app, I was just about to invest in all the packs I didn't own when they announced closing shop. Bummer.
I don't think @Rustik wants us to turn this into another Gadget thread
. Although I love nothing better than a good Gadget thread.
Alchemy is nice in the way you can throw down 8 or 16 bars and then go through about 100 patches listening to which one works best and tweaking the sounds.
It IS a great app. Since it isn't supported anymore it brings some kind of uniqueness in its sounds. I'm glad I got all the IAP's.
I loved some of the sounds but never liked the drum part at all. The pads were fun I agree and some of the arps were fun also.
I have to agree that Alchemy is still one of the (if not the) best iOS apps ever. The patches are the very best in the iOS world by a country mile. Especially the morph pads can do so much interesting things. I had over 5000 patches on my iPhone and iPad since i can put all my desktop patches inside it (about 95% of these working fine.... but not all due to cpu limits). Synthmaster f.e. can't even come close (sorry my personal opinion).
The "Steamworx" patch bank is maybe my all time favourite preset bank ever from all synths. I also love "Water" and "Dream Voices" so much. All the others are also good or very good. I still play with it often on my iPad since it more fun there to use the morph pad in a touch screen. The app can still remote my desktop Alchemy but the latency is pretty lame then. I wish there would be a way to connect the iPad version via lightning cable to the desktop version.
Well, I guess that's the main reason Apple bought them
Same here; my favorite iOS music making app and I hesitated buying the remaining IAP's over the holidays as I splurged on new, shiny apps...oops.
Other great things about Alchemy beyond the fantastic sounds. MIDI works very well -- used as MIDI in and as a controller for other apps. The export to Dropbox is great (individual audio and midi tracks), IAA and AB compatible from the get-go, iCloud integration is perfect for my needs, and the sample import is really cool.
I agree. The Drum parts were a bit Pants.
I guess. I like some of the drums in the "minimal techno pack" though. Some interesting sounds that I don't have elsewhere.
Sounds a bit, you know, random....
Deleted. Used to be my app? Waiting for Apple's take on it.
Great app sure I appreciate it but it's not even near the top of my list.
And just a minor reflection on what you said if I may - If you are creating a 4 track song in Alchemy I am pretty sure you're using 4 pages not 1.
I'm hoping someone does take it over and continue to improve its caoabilties. Could it be crowd funded?
Doubtful, Apple already used the morph pads in the new version of Garageband.
links to the best alchemy videos anyone?
So now we can morph things like strings into pianos !!
Fav iOS synth by far, hope it returns in full glory, even if they did muff that "closing shop" announcement.
Alchemy + Gadget tracks is a beautiful thing to have sitting in your DAW
