  • Well said General. I will take your advice. Thanks!

  • Yes, don't hesitate on drumjam. Definitely one of the truly great iOS apps. The main drummer in my Motown band even bought it- he NEVER EVER spends any money on apps. In fact, I know the 3 apps he's bought in his 3 years on iOS- forscore, ootunes, and drumjam.

In forscore, his charts are all photos of charts he's made on 1/2 pieces of paper taken from hotel rooms.

So, I think that speaks to the quality of drumjam!

  • If you have Thumbjam and enjoy it, you should simply buy Drumjam because Thumbjam is easily worth 2-5 times what you paid for it.
( Not my original thought, but I remember reading it a while back in a thread and really liking it)

And Drumjam definitely does plenty that Thumbjam doesn't.

  • I still just can't get a good groove going with tapping the ipad. Because if I could, I'd have stopped at drumjam a long time ago. Fun little app, great sounds. Thumbjam is the absolute bomb. Both apps are worth picking up, worth way mor than what Sonosaurus charges.

Well, hopefully this update will get you a little closer!

Any idea when it might land? Can't wait.

Also, I have a question about the 'repeat swing' function. Not noticed this before but does it apply swing to the repeated hits? Just the 16ths presumably? If so that's very cool. Does this reflect in the midi sent out?

  • That gives me an idea Matt..u ever make breaks with this app?

Ahhhh - one of my favourite apps... I. Can't. Wait.

    DrumJam x Drum & Bass = !!!!!!!

  • Yep, that control applies swing to the 16ths for the pad repeats. We let the control range go from 50% (no swing) to about 60%, which is about the limit that Pete could stand when heard in conjunction with the straight loops. It is subtle enough to be interesting without sounding broken. And yes, it applies to the midi out too.

I will probably pursue applying swing to the audio loops via some fancy timestretching, but I don't know if it will ultimately pass the quality test.

    Of course :)

That's a really useful feature, thanks.

Hope the update comes soon. It's painful waiting.

You could also record the midi into your daw and rearange a little or use some quantize on your midi track or just wait for the update.

  • Just want to clarify that the pad swing feature has been in the current version for a while....

I use Auria, so can't do that at this point in time. Soon. Maybe that'll fix it, I guess we'll see. In the meantime, I'll try the new stuff in DJ.

  • I'm in the middle of a serious love affair with DrumJam at the moment.

Never tried this before, but I've just been drumming along live to the wonderful Vector Lovers iPhonica album streaming on Spotify. Such fun. Just tap the tempo in and then start drumming away on the live pads.

    Fantastic.

    At the moment?

From day 1 you purchased you mean ,its genius. :)

  • Not much has been said about the new sound packs coming, but they're not to be overlooked in this update either. They are simply amazing. Both the loops done by the amazing Pete Lockett as well as the new samples available for the pads are out-frikin-standing. You're in for a treat all around.

  • New features look great for live improvisation!
    Sorry to ask but,
Didn't there used to be an app bundle containing Thumbjam and Drumjam?

  • edited July 2015

    And the correct answer is...

  • The new packs will go live with the new update, which is already waiting for review.

  • As far as “worth” goes, both Thumbjam and Drumjam represent the best value you've ever received anywhere ever. Black Friday ain't got a thing on these apps, even if they were twice the price they currently are. These are must-buy apps, if such a thing ever existed. They both stand separately as the pinnacle of what's possible in iOS music. There are few that even come close to comparing feature wise. (Can you tell I'm a fan?)

I did try out a bundle for a little while, but removed it for complicated and ambiguous accounting reasons. Sorry!

These days there's only a few things that are insta-buy for me. Drumjam IAP's are one, the other being auria pro. Looking forward to new content , drumjam is awesome.

  • Looking forward to this, thanks for the update.

  • I keep checking, but still no update :(

    This is painful... :)

I know. They really need to spread these updates out per app, so we get fed every other day or so.... :)

  • Received the new update and nice new soundpacks and quantitize options. Great update.

  • drum jam is one of the few apps I've had almost as long as my ipad and never talk about..... secret arsenal type stee

  • I was playing with this morning, but still can't quite do what I want, and it may just be a settings thing. If I tap one pad, going back and forth between two fingers, for a fairly fast beat on one drum, I can't do it. It doesn't keep up. Is there a setting that would restrict how fast you can hit one pad?

Are you using the tap quantize feature? The update turned that on by default, but did you intend to use it? With tap quant on it restricts to whatever quantize level you set (per the current tempo). Turn it off for unlimited non quantized taps.
