Soundprism Questions ?

Soundprism Electro ------------------can I use it as a MIDI controller?

What is the difference between SPELCTRO and SprismPRo?

Do I need to buy both then to have a MIDI controller as well as a synth type app?

I don't mind, I just want to buy the right thing.

Always up for supporting the home team.

Thanks

  • Good questions - I already have SPPro but have been eyeing Electro lately; also curious as to which one would be the best MIDI controller.

  • I thought this would have a bunch of responses?'

  • Love SPP. Many folks love Electro, never floated my mop.

  • hmm, I have both. Electro is easier to use for me to control other synths. It's all set up, just have to figure out what to do on the synth end for given synth. I haven't messed with the sounds in electro much. I use it just to control.

SoundPrisim Pro, not hard to set up as a midi controller, just an extra step to turn midi on in settings, I think? I bought the extra sound packs with this one, so there are additional sounds in this app. Not bad sounds, just don't use them a whole lot. The, ummm..... Choices to use in each app, like the little squares with little squares in them, that show you what kind of chord pattern you will be using. Gawd I hope that makes sense.... I think they sound different with each app.

Electro is able to blend the sound of the app, with the sound of the chosen synth, which is a pretty cool thing.

So, I hope that helps a bit. Other than the above midi stuff, I do not claim to know a damn thing about midi beyond that, wish to all heck I could get it through my thick skull. Midi clock, midi sync, midi midi midi......Makes my brain hurt.

  • Yes you can use it as a midi controller. For convenience reasons the midi settings dialog has been replaced with a logical default routing

Bass Notes (Left Lane) is defaulting to Midi Channel 1
Chord Notes (Grid to the right) is defaulting to Midi Channel 2
Melody Notes (Grid to the right either added directly on top of the chord or as a single melody, depending on the variant buttons you set) is defaulting to Midi Channel 3

Further more the midi slider controls the SP Electro own internal effects, in this case the Cut Off Filter. It outputs midi CC (Filter Cut Off, I guess that's CC74 if I remember correctly) to control other synth app's with it that accept midi CC.

  • I appreciate the suggestions and information.

Are either able to be played via MIDI keyboard to trigger entire chords? (as in ChordPolyPad)

  • No, there is currently no midi in to trigger the touch selections in Soundprism. Sebastian has noted that feature request the other day. They are listening.

  • F.Y.I. Sound Prism Electro (and Mini) are on sale to celebrate the release of AudioBus Remote and they have new Remote feature!

Good question and i was also wondering if its worth to buy Electro if you have Pro and want to use it pure as a controller. What i understood is that Electro has an extra slider and the midi settings are a little easier to setup, but is there any difference in the chord and bass section layout or does it sound exactly the same as SP Pro when controlling other apps?

  • Ok, so I got prism electro today as it was on sale.very very nice but @sebastian , it needs more presets, perhaps as iap? Different choices of fx on the slide bar , metronome and record

Having said that, I remembered I owned prism pro and decided to control a gadget synth with it.

Worked a charm, then I added arpeggist and , had that doing an arp while prism pro was doing chords and drones..

Massive potential here, maybe I install remote on my sons iPad 3 and use my mini retina and see what goes down..

So, @sebastian , will we see more development for your apps?

I see you also have SP Pro and maybe you can give me an answer, thanks.

  • Not sure, see screenshots

  • Prism electro is worth getting at the £1.49 price , I can use prism pro, prism electro AND arpeggist at the same time to control a gadget synth for very amazing results ...

  • SP Electro does things a little differently from SP Pro. Electro also plays chords when you play the bass section to make it easier to play melody.

    Yes.

What is the difference between SPELCTRO and SprismPRo?

    See above.

You'll need a synth, but both can play on their own.

I don't mind, I just want to buy the right thing.

    Then get both :)

    Thank you, much appreciated!

You can use them both as a controller only SP Electro have some extra features.I should go for the Electro version if you dont wanna buy both.

  • I am going to update to 8.4 from 7 this weekend, then I'll get electro because the new shapes do look helpful.

  • Any more presets planned for electro? Acp?
