Cubasis UNDO bug reared its ugly head again !!!!

I posted this on Steinbergs forum.....they might be able to reproduce it says in an earlier post....

Just as I thought it was safe to use Cubasis I start making one of the coolest IOS tracks yet using Alchemy, Beatmaker2, iMini, Djay & Audiobus....

2 hrs in I have laid down 8 or so tracks of midi and 3 or 4 audio.

I swapped Alchemy for Djay to record a percussion loop I had going. I recorded it in and started to edit the audio to align the loop with the rest of the project.

I took magnetic grid from 16 to off to finely adjust the sync and put lock back on to tweak again and extended the length of the audio clip to the start of the bar and made a mistake so I pressed UNDO and oh dear Cubasis cannot find my project!!!!!

I thought to myself wow thank The Lord I took some snap shots....I then preceded to load one of my snapshots and to my despair these too were EMPTY....EVERYTHING HAD GONE ALL THE MIDI AND AUDIO.....2hrs work GONE

What is going on Steinberg.....this is the first time I have used the app in ages and for 2hrs I started to become really engaged in this app and was really enjoying the vibes and.......BOOM....

Please fix this AGAIN......I cannot use this now until the next fix and £35 for an app I dare not use is very disappointing indeed.

  • Happened to me last night.

    .

  • The funny thing is when I was making the track I said to myself this is definitely going to be my regular DAW now this thing is great !!!

    The irony :(

One thing I have noticed with Cubasis recently is that when I listen to playback of a guitar Audio track I have just recorded (using Amplitube thru Audiobus in the Input slot and iRig for the guitar) the recording plays out of time with the other tracks - and I mean really out of time, much faster, not just me not keeping in time!

Maybe it is because I already have 8 or 9 tracks of midi and some audio recorded but it is very frustrating!

  • The one thing you expect is for the app to be stable, and as you say, especially at this price point. Personally I have found it to be much more stable since the last update, so it is worrying that you are reporting this problem happening again.

I won't use it again until its fixed...not worth wasting all my time and effort to lose all my work in a split second......

It's gutting because the Audiobus/midi implementation is the slickest yet on IOS....IMHO.

The feeling reminded me of when I thought I had left my iphone 5 in the pub when I woke the morning after.

@AlterEgo_UK I was making a complete track with just midi and all was fine until I introduced and edited my first piece of audio and Poof as if by magic all was gone, definitely needs work with the audio handling.

  • sigh I know they're working on this.

  • Feel for you Dave and have been there many times.
Not just the undo that is causing it to crash for me.
Cubasis still has multiple issues and narrowing down a sequence of events that is causing crashes seems pointless as(for me)its different each time.
I view cubasis as a sketch pad now and each time I record an audio file,I 'save to media' and immediately share to audioshare.
Not ideal, but better then losing everything..

Might give it a try and save each region as I go so I can restore in the event of another wipeout, any ideas on where to save midi regions to ?

    Thanks @commonstookie

Good to hear they are working on it @Sebastian....

    .

  • That's a question I asked last week Dave.
Think audioshare can do it but cubasis would need to add the 'save to media' function to midi regions.
At the mo,think it can only be done for audio regions..?

Looks like it can be done with the mixdown
    Feature.
You can select 'midi' and 'separate files for tracks'

  • Just been tinkering and you can export the project to Dropbox...I think this could be a saving grace until they fix it ?

    What do you think ?

  • Then click the 'share' button and you are given the option to 'open with'.
Click the audioshare ikon and your in.

  • Was also tinkering!

  • A glimmer of hope....thanks @commonstookie

  • No Dave,thank you.
You just solved my problem too.
    Have a good weekend.

  • I've had this occurring for a while and it's very frustrating. It only seems to happen using Audiobus.
There is a work around to avoid it I've found. Don't use UNDO. Select the part and tap delete. Slight pain, but it's better than losing your work, and I love the Cubasis interface and it hasn't crashed on me as long s I ignore undo. Lol.

  • I can't trust myself not to use Undo, i would probably end up using it without even thinking about it in the heat of the vibe and only realise I had used it when I had lost everything ;(

  • Ok,so you save the project to dropbox. How do you get it back?

  • It's just instinct to hit undo. Now if the button said "delete three hours of work" I probably wouldn't hit it. I love cubasis, but now I'm trying to learn BM2 which is not very lovable. Praying for an update.

  • @Ian open Dropbox select your project and open in Cubasis.....only problem I found with this is it sometimes fails to load the audio files into the track.

  • After the latest Cubasis update it didn't happen to me again. It would be just better to place the undo button somewhere else... I did hit it so often with my thick finger when I tried to change the song position ;-)

  • @DaveMagoo thanks. I'd thought that an inability to import stuff was its major weakness. Too used to BM2 making it easier for me!

    .

  • Yes they're working on it and have found some reproducible examples when the project name has umlats....they still haven't totally nailed all of it yet to my knowledge...

  • Is that what affected you Dave? Umlauts in the project name?

  • edited May 2013

No, i have answered some questions on their forum but It wasn't due to umlauts in my experience.

I think they should disable the undo button until they debug it. Or give us solid bog standard save function.....
