Music IO problems - esp with Korg Module

Is anyone else out there using Music IO?

I tried it when it first came out and it was MIDI only, and it was working well.

Now I decided to try the latest version, which sends both MIDI and audio over USB and have been doing extensive tests. Unfortunately, it is just not working reliably.

I've tested various app, and it seems to work OK with some (e.g., BeatHawk), but with Korg Module I get unpredictable and unreliable results. Sometimes it will work with MIDI, but audio will not work. The sound comes out the iPad speaker, but is not sent via USB to the computer. Sometimes it works for both audio and MIDI, but in those instances, (cc64) sustain pedal doesn't work. Sometimes neither MIDI nor audio will work.

Has anyone else out there tried Music IO with Korg Module? Are you having the same issues? I would love to hear from another user using Music IO with any other apps, esp. Korg Module. I've sent several emails to tech support, but no replies so far. Does anybody know of any other forum or support option for Music IO?

What about Audio/Midimux? Are things any better there?

Thanks for any help.

    Midimux in combi with MusicIO.

For me it's the definite link, don't want to talk you into buying it, but it's like they were meant for each other.

(Win7, Ableton Live lite 9, ipad mini 2, musicIO and midimux with updated servers + loopmidi, newest itunes)

  • Hi -- I think I caught up with your email support ticket this morning (we've all been buried with code for the next update on the app). It sounds to me like something funky with Module, but we'll try to chase after it and see if there's something else going on.

Configuration of MIDI on Windows should get easier shortly....

  • Yes, I did get an email response this morning. Thanks, Secret Base!

As discussed there, it seems that not every app works perfectly. So far in my tests I've had good results with BeatHawk, Thor, and Animoog. Apparently, some Korg stuff works and some, not so much. Supposedly Gadget and iM1 work (acc. to Secret Base), but there have been problems w/ iPolySix (acc. to Secret Base) and Module (acc. to my tests). I have Gadget but haven't tested for myself yet. Apparently most problems have to do with different apps implementation of IAA. Hopefully things will get smoothed out over time.

I do like a lot about the Music IO approach. I like the AU/VST plugin approach, and up till now I liked the idea of IAA, but now I'm thinking maybe AudioBus might be a more reliable way to go. I suppose I'll have to pick up audio/midimux (which relies on AudioBus), and see how that works. Anybody ever try Korg module with mux?

So you use Music IO for audio and Midimux for MIDI, crzyrcs? What apps have you tried? Any Korg stuff?

How do you pronounce "crzyrcs"? "kriz-rix"? It makes me think "crazy lyrics". :)

  • Criss cross?

Indeed:), audiomux has the advantage of incorporating audiobus and auria fxwise, for stability and solid audio transfer, it's musicIO on the other hand.
Both are nice, really, and almost there, (they still are in their beta's ...)

Midimux miraculously integrates into musicIO's midi window (edit: 'the connections get displayed'), when active, (and besides can also act as a standalone host, i.e. even without a daw...)

I have been trying iM1 and musicIO before, yes, it can be problematic - on the aforementioned setup starting midimux did the trick.

As I'm tending to exhibit symptoms of schizoid personality disorder from time to time, they called me by this name in the band I used to play; I still try to collect text/thought fragments from/to the other side though, enrgy crzs inna scdhnd burrow's zero-thread .

    Cheers, Chris

    ... good news to hear,
    Thank you.

  • Ok, I get it. So like crzycrs = crazy chris, then? Should be crzychrs, but then I might think crazy chorus.

Suddenly I'm in a prog rock mood.

  • I have a problem using Figure in MusicIO. For some reason , the volume control sliders and mute buttons on the Figure 'Mix' window don't work when Figure is loaded into MusicIO. I'm using Air2 iOS8.3 win7,32 into AbletonLive 8.4.2. Can anyone else check this , thanks
