Pipeline question
I want to record the chorus of a karaoke version of an oldie from You Tube in Audacity on my Windows PC and save the audio file to Dropbox so that may retrieve it on my iPhone and ultimately use it in Garageband. I have queries about procedures:
>
1) what file format should I save from Audacity to?
2) Once in Dropbox is where I get hazy - I rather suspect that AudioShare could be involved, but if someone would be kind enough to walk me through the steps getting this audio snippet from Dropbox into GB I'd be grateful. And don't assume I know anything about it, either. I need step-by-steps! Thanks!

In theory, .AIFF should get you there with the best quality:
4a. Record file from Audioshare via Audiobus into Garageband. This would allow for any FX slot sweetener you may care to add.
That's the help I needed. Thank you. I knew it was simple, I just never have to do that sort of stuff (yet).
I do all my sample imports/exports using iTunes, much easier imo. You'd just save your edited out chorus into a folder on your PC, then plug your phone into PC and up pops iTunes.. Select Apps and then click on the app you want to import to and drag your sample into it (or click on ADD button, bottom right).
iTunes on my PC leaves me completely bewildered. I plug in my iPhone, iTunes starts up and I have no idea what's happening or what it's doing, but it does something. The UI has me chasing my tail... I don't know how to find out if any of my GB files or anything since day 1 have been saved... I've tried & tried to get answers online about how to do anything comprehensible with iTunes, but to no avail. Unless someone can explain it to me, iTunes is out.
You wouldn't need Audioshare if you use Dropbox. You can copy from Dropbox and paste directly in GB, or do "Open In" from Dropbox and get it to GB that way.
@CalCutta True, dat. I added a step out of habit - most of my sampled audio and bits live in Audioshare. If you can import straight from Dropbox to Garageband, that would definitely be faster.
Every month I have to dump all my sounds loops beats etc to my PC.. No way would I be able to do this one at a time via Dropbox.
Maybe today i can make a video to show you how it's done with iTunes.
Thanks for the further info. I have never had deep needs for all the capabilities at hand and have had little experience with them as a result.

As it turns out, there is something amiss on my PC that isn't letting Audacity record from online, so I opted to not be lazy and cover the sequence I wanted in GB, which isn't the worst result! So, I get THAT done and now I think I've run out of room on my Soundcloud account to upload the result... AAAAARGH!!!
Congrats! One workaround you can use where you wouldn't need a PC for your original goal: Get the app Beat Time! (the app really does have the exclamation point, hehe that's not my enthusiasm)
It's available for iPhone, and you can download youtube videos from it, rip the audio out, and it has an "Open In" feature so you can send it directly into GB that way.

Indeed? I've been looking for something like Audiobus to record audio from online to my iPhone! I'm on that...
Not for that.
I still need both. That's just me.
What do you mean not for that? I'm pretty sure that the process I described is accurate.
Somewhat off-topic: I managed to upload that parody snippet to Soundcloud, but I'm reminded of a question I've been meaning to ask: All of the Files I have uploaded to my account are not all grouped together in one queue, and I have to bounce around to find them all - is there a way to get them all together?
That's the million dollar question. Is this the elephant in the room or the 500 lb. gorilla?
That's where Audioshare is handy since you can have folders of folders.
Yeah audioshare.
