GarageBand "hidden" chords.

Hi all,
Just found out that there is full chords in the bottom of the midi editor in GarageBand. Does anyone know if it's possible to "activate" those via eksternal keyboard?

Comments

  • Well I just scrolled to the bottom of the MIDI editor, I couldn't find anything. Can you elaborate a little? I'm not super familiar with all the midi editor tools

  • It's for the smart guitar only I guess.

  • Oh, got it.

  • Could be cool if those could be played on a keyboard.

  • Wow, I wonder how many people already knew about this? Looks like it is a hidden feature.

  • Yeah. If we could only get a strumming rhythm going. That would be cool. Did you find a way to trigger them? And how to make minor chords? @martygras

  • No, I've not tried yet.

Well just tried it with the "ntbyf" app as midi controller. And it did trigger the chords if I shifted the octaves deep enough. So I guess it works :)

Cool. I'm sure this will be helpful to others too.

Hey, this is new to me. Nice discovery! Looked into it, and indeed only in smart guitar. In edit mode. But you can't record in edit mode, so what is the advantage? GB can only be set in the output slot in AB. So I see no direct practical use in this hidden feature. Only useful perhaps if you use a second device for the output, to record stuff.

Edit: thought of an advantage: you can edit chords, on a chord level.

  • @marcel
You can trigger them using a synth or any other app via midi out. Can't seem to make minor chords, but I gues you could just change it in edit mode.
