iOrnament free right now. Quite usable mainly for generating backgrounds even without IAP

Like the Kids in the Hall once said, "It's like I have a picture of a dog in my head, and I just haven't seen it yet ..." ;)

  • Never quite got along with that but always felt I should. Any luck your end?

Reminds me of Jack Nance in "Wild At Heart":

"My dog barks, some. Mentally, you picture my dog, but I have not told you the type o' dog which I have. Perhaps you might even picture Toto... from 'The Wizard of Oz.'

But I can tell you, my dog is all ways with me! ARF!!"

  • Well, it's a little app for surprising little kids.

  • Try iColorama is great is like the Sector app of the photo section, and the new Assembly app is cool for work with vector draw really easy

iColorama is amazing...but can overhelm many people. Lots of tutorials. But it takes a lot of room in your iPad (423 Mb) in my case.

BTW, I recommend http://theappwhisperer.com/ for tutorials about photo apps.

Thanks; as always, good tips :)

  • IColorama just use layers and presets and you can make amazing stuff and Teresita the developer is always there for answer

  • I forgot try mobitog.com the best forum for ios photo apps

  • Have just spent a couple of hours with iColorama (again) and it is the canine's reproductive center. Very, very good.

  • "Brushstroke" has some palettes that are downright gorgeous and sparkling.

It's brilliant for remixing stuff. I need some apps for the generation so will check out the stuff posted above!

  • From iColorama's dev, Lighten is free today (iPhone).

  • I discovered iOrnament thanks to this thread, and I love it, instant Escher!

Thanks again. I will get anything from Katerina at this point (and no, I'm not on first name terms really, but cannot remember how to spell her very long last name :).

I see it's geometrics etc, but what do you find you use it for?

I've got loads of photo filter type apps - does iColorama offer anything different to what else is out there?

IColoroma is not a filter app exclusive it goes beyond, like brushes, layers and more. Is a unique app, in photo apps there are a lot a lot of garbage, and a few really cool apps, iColorama is in the top 10 photo apps, believe me you wont regret.

  • @monzo I also (no!) have many filtery type thingies (many), but icolorama is the Daddy I think in terms of overall functionality. I find it very creative rather than (at this point) generic. Breathed new life into old pics and led me to making stuff in ways I hadn't previously. HOWEVER, I get the sense that you're a Pro in this department and I therefore live in fear of your dismissive hand waving so am not prepared to offer you the unreserved recommendation I might give others etc.

I use Photoshop on a daily basis, have done for over 20 years but I still like my iPhone photo/art apps for mucking about with. Snapseed is my go-to adjuster, and I've got a few warp and paint things. Only reservation is how much disk space it takes up, looks like a big bugger.

  • To me, Snapseed is the fastest no layers app for tweaking photos (iPhone/Androud phone)

And actually Lighten is one of the iColorama presets.

I've had iColorama on and off the ipad two or three times, but only got into it this past go round. It IS a big bugger, but does most everything in the photo/painting area. No text it seems, but otherwise is the compendium. For all of that, Snapseed has long been my mobile quick go-to, even when they changed the GUI which I still bitterly resent fuckers.

In addition to just being fun to doodle a quick pattern (and it has 17 symmetry modes so lots of variety), i do a lot of 3D graphics stuff and can see this being very useful to generate seamless patterns for texturing - fabris prints, weaves, link fences, anything really that has a regular repeat. And if you like the work of Escher, this is a goldmine!

  • I hate snapseed new GUI too, well since google bought them, use to be one of my fav apps like 2 years ago, for filters i like the VSCo packs, stackables is one cool too even formula more limited but good from the same developer.

  • Yes, I prefered the old Snapseed GUI, but you must appreciate the value of History and Brush.

  • Still installed in one of my ipads, but its an old version because im still using the HDR Scape, Drama and the Retrolux filters. I really like those.
