Xenon Groove?
I am just looking for something new to fiddle with and do some cool clips and loops while entertaining myself.
Korg apps are on sale so you could get iKaossilator for $9.99. You can export the performance. I can't speak from experience though, since I have yet to purchase.
I don't really do much on my phone, although I did install Music Studio on it the other day and it seemed like a good little way to kill some time.
there's also Caustic
@RustiK
I used to love Xenon Groove ... really lovely app in some ways... One of the first apps i got into.
It probably doens't stack up now in terms of full functionality and sound quality... but for nice easy one handed grid based twiddling/composing it might be worth a shot.
I'd probably say go Nano-studio if you want the most bang for your buck. It's a full on DAW really.
BM2 is great but a bit fiddly on the iphone perhaps.
iKaossilator lovely but a bit more limited than any of the above IMO. But very easy to twiddle stuff out of. Similar to Figure really.

Yeah I love Kaoss.& Figure
I appreciate your feedback
I am still not sure
Huh- forgot
Also Triq Trac
You have caustic?
Use it on phone?
Triq Traq was going to be my vote too.
I don't know how all of you youngin's can compose on the iPhone screen. I got the 6+ when it became available and it is just about big enough for me to do some actual work on, but anything smaller is like working in the dark. I guess I'll stick to iPad.
I'm 45 and did an entire album on my iPhone4G. :-D
Impressive!
I got Caustic, BeatMaker 2 and NanoStudio but I haven't used any of them for a long time. I would chose between Caustic and NanoStudio because I like to stay in the box and I like synth tweaking but BeatMaker 2 might be the best one for recording other synths into it if I remember correctly.
Another vote for TriqTraq. Shame Cotracks is only iPad. At $2,99, a bargain.
You could check it out Looptical as well, for a wider range of musical genres.
...and maybe save $0,99 for Rhythm Studio, quite limited but frequently on sale at that price.
Nanostudio or Akai impc. Impc is totally fun to use, although limited in functionality.
Ok. Back to the two candidates: NanoStudio.
I own every app mentioned here and there's only 2 that I've used on my phone in the last 2 years (on the train or on planes):
Nanostudio
TriqTraq
Nanostudio is an absolute pleasure and I have missed a few train stops using it over the years. It works really well on the iPhone screen, editing is really good. You can make kits on your computer and upload them, it's great for sample stuff, the synth in it can load samples and is really powerful. It also has a free pc/mac version that you can open your tracks in on your computer at home. If you want to demo the app just download the free pc/mac version, it's a complete version.
TriqTraq is awesome too, again really cool to load your own samples into. Very different to nanostudio. More of a groovebox than a daw but you can get crazy with modulation and it has a wicked pattern jamming feature that has instant cuts between patterns (unquantized) so I often make a pattern that's just all random hits for crazy fills and stuff.
I would get both, if I had to choose one it would be nanostudio though.
I never got Nanostudio only BM2 but never got into it cause it was to cryptic for me.
Here's a good demo of the triq traq pattern mode:
I appreciate everyone's suggestions
Now I am more confused !
Pre:History: nanostudio bm2 thumbjam audioshare/bus ...
Now that Music Studio is AB/IAA compatible, that would give you the most bang for your buck. But it's 5 bucks out of your price range, with an IAP to get all instruments.
Between Nanostudio and BM2, I'd go with Nanostudio. You have to be a little more creative to get audio in, but that beats the maze that is Beatmaker 2's interface. Plus you get an aces synth to boot.
Funny how I think of using the phone as such a second class citizen to the iPad, and (I find) it usually is, but there are some apps where the implementation on the phone leads to an easier flow somehow....
Figure and ikaoss are better on the phone I think.
Also TC Performer (if you don't own TC 11).
Nano studio was on sale recently. If it still is, that's a no brainer. The synth and the sequencing is great. People have made while albums with it on the phone. You can even get loads of cool presets.

Good points, all. And it's still on sale for $6.99 as of 3:05 Hoosier Time today
I'm not sure what Acid Blues is. Nanostudio is well suited to the others.
Timeline/song editing works so well you'll probably find yourself making longer and longer loops. A few other nice features related to this:
I think you should just get NanoStudio and get on with things but I'll add WeeJam to the pile to further confuse things.
I'll also add that Caustic beats NS as far as synthesis possibilities. Though no one caustic synth comes close to Nano's Eden, it ships with a lot of great different synth types. I'm sure it's a matter of preference but I reckon NS beats Caustic in just about every other respect, especially the all important piano roll/song editor. We're at 5 or 6 years after NS' initial release and only Gadget stands as a real contender in the best-piano-roll-on-ios competition. Even on the phone.
If you get NS, head over to the NS forum and find the sticky post with links to free Eden sound packs to download. The included banks have plenty of good sounds but the user created ones are far more interesting.
Yep. There are sme really great user created patches there.
Nanostudio hands down because:
It takes less space device than beatmaker 2
It has Eden synth and multiple instances thereof if you so choose
BM2 doesn't have built in synths, just a keyboard sampler, although quite good, the built in samples suck for the most part
Nanostudio is a lot easier to navigate around than BM2
It is far easier to bring sounds into nano than BM2 via acp into the trgpads or Eden itself and use the settings to really create some wonderful noises
I'd say Nanostudio is a lot stabler than BM2, you can even run is intensly on a 3GS or iPod 4g
It's a lot quicker to nail grooves down and complete tracks in nano
Nano sequencer is a lot easier to comprehend and adding automations is easier too
Export is far easier with nano
Figuring out how to use nano is a lot easier than BM2
Likely much more I could add...
100% agree with all of this
Thanks for all suggestions!
I grabbed NANO at the gym on treadmill yesterday.
I fiddled yesterday and this am and really am happy.
HOW DO YOU GET PRESET/PATCH BANKS INTO EDEN?
