@xen , I agree with @Noirflux your studio is clean and beautiful! How do you find using your mixing board upright like that? Could be fun like a modular synth
Happy Borthday @thesammiller ! What os version are your iPad 2's on? I couldn't get mine to work with the Alesis IO Dock, or do you have the IO Dock 2?
@Noirflux @TGiG
Thanks guys. It's only looking like that cos I just had it all apart and rebuilt it over the weekend. The rack/monitor shelf units are new. I designed and built them on Friday. The room is very small so I have to have it quite well organised. What you can't see is the back wall with a book case next to two coffee tables stacked on each other with all the clutter and junk
The vertical mount mixer was the only option really. There are two keyboard synths on the left (Roland RS-5 and Yamaha AN1x) on a stand and the door is on the right. Also, the iTrack Dock and Launchkey Mini have swapped sides so I can use the mouse and the iPad at the same time...that's for key command ease of use when working in Cubase.
The mixer where it is is great. I'm dead centre when using it. The racks on the left are a Novation Drum Station on top, Novation Super Bass Station in the middle and a MIDI interface on the bottom (8 in and out). On the right there is a TC Delay/Reverb on top, a DBX dual channel compressor and my 18 in 8 out ESI audio interface.
I've tweaked my connections over the weekend and every connection on the mixer (Spirit Folio SX 20 channel, with 8 direct outs, sub and main mix busses and 3 aux sends) and interface are used. I started 20 years ago with a Tascam 4-track porta studio and have built up to this over that time, gradually adding along the way. I've now reached the setup I had in my head about 15 years ago.
The main changes over the weekend have been those flash of inspiration moments. I've set the external fx up properly in Cubase and set-up group and fx tracks so they function as proper sends for any track in Cubase, where before they were Aux's off the desk. This means I can use the Aux sends as inputs to the iTrack. This makes it really easy to sample my hardware direct into the iPad, or sub mix my drums or synths through Auria /Cubasis and take the stereo mix into Cubase. Or get my HW through some iOS fx. This has freed up two inputs to my mixer which I can now use for my two guitar channels (Mic and line) from my electric acoustic.
All in all, I'm having a lot of fun with it right now
This is where it's at now...acoustic foam in the corners and wired up and working well.
@xen Sweet! You really put a lot of thought into it and it payed off. I'm stuck in the back of my family room near the bar because I use my den for work and my family uses my iMac in the den for the Internet. lol
This is my new setup. Just finished the desk yesterday. The iPad is not in the picture. Still trying to get everything hooked up.
@xen
Its all about fun! For me I have a one in one out policy for. I've tried out several hardware kits that provide an all in one solution but I havent had anything stick. Until something new comes along with the wow factor ill stick with what I have. I've been secretly looking at the op-1for the last 6 months but I just cant justify the purchase lol. It's looks amazing though
Nicee. I like it. Again another clean set up I wish I had more open space like that in my work area
@Noirflux Don't be fooled by the cleanliness. I will take a picture in a couple of months to see how everything ends. I am almost certain it will not be that clean of a workspace. lol
