Single key piano chords?

edited May 2013 in General App Discussion

Is there a way to set the keyboard in BM2 or some other app to play certain chords by only pressing 1 key? I want to play a simple song on piano that has 4 chords and I'm nothing close to a piano player. The 4 chords are C G D Em so I want to play them by just pressing the C G D E keys. Thanks in advance.

  • Alchemy and Polychord will do it.

  • GarageBand and cubasis too.

So will a bunch of 'em

  • MusicStudio

  • Looks like MusicStudio fit my needs best by using the pads for the chords. Did I miss something with Alchemy or does it only give you the option to set all chords to either major or minor? I like the smart keys in GarageBand, but couldn't figure out a way to turn midi input off so I could use the pads on my Axiom to control the drum machine in BM2 at the same time without triggering sounds in GB.

  • You can use pads for chords in Cubasis also.

  • Matt, yes you can just set either major or minor chords in Alchemy, but it s not too difficult to change them on the fly if needed, and provided your tempo isnt too fast. But I suspect one of the other apps with definable pads would be best. Or use a midi controller app like Polychord.

  • Magellan has a really cool dedicated section for exactly this.

    'Midi mind'

    Pick a key.

    Chose a scale.

    Yummy.

Tiz a midi controller tho...so no sound of its own.

  • If you select a scale in Alchemy and then hit the chords button, the chords you play will be in that scale.

Magellan's arp can be set to "chord" so that it plays all arp notes simultaneously. I just discovered this last night! Using this with the scale lock should get the results you want.

  • Two good tips in the last two posts!

  • Also, Magellan should be able to send arp notes to any synth on any MIDI channel. I just had a fun jam with Magellan's arp going out to Animoog. Simply brilliant!

One issue though: things went wonky when I tried to turn on Magellan's scale lock... Anyone else tried this scenario successfully?
