synthmaster player for iPad- scratching my head

Love the sounds available from the pro version of this app. But I'm amazed that there's no midi CC control for master volume, while the 8 smaller knobs (osc, envelope, arp) can be programmed for CC control. Seems to me that volume is a basic controller which would be the first to be assignable (or be set by default at CC7)- important for live performing!

  • They are working on more parameters to be controlled via CCs in upcoming releases.

  • Yes, MIDI control for volume is essential for live performing. The volume wheel in synthmaster its really hard to control on the stage

On the manual says that MIDI learn for every parameter its a feature for version 1.1, hope volume its included.

  • And, I have to say, every week or so, I resolve to buy some expansions, but I can never decide on any.

"The volume wheel in synthmaster its really hard to control on the stage "

Yes it is finicky. You have to run your finger around the rim to operate the volume smoothly

  • I have almost all the packs.

    They are a bit redundant.

    Here are my favs:

    -Rob Lee 1 & 3
    -Elec.History 3
    -Clubbin
    -World sounds

Quality of sounds more than compensates for lack of control. With so many sounds, there are so many options combined with F/x slot I don't have any issue using S-master for everything I need.

I would love more control, but, how much control can you really have over a sample based player/synth?

  • I agree, sounds are excellent.

We're working on improving midi learn! By the way, it would be unfair to call SynthMaster sample based synth, because it does a lot of "from strach" synthesis :)

  • ok, we will fix this and submit a new update asap

  • thank you! Question- will banks/programs be responsive to MSB/LSB/program commands? That, plus additional MIDI learn options would make this a truly awesome instrument for live performances.

I am actually trying to figure that out. We just have to decide if we'll use CC0 #bank number PC #program number or CC0 #bank number CC32 #program number hi PC #program number lo. Since some banks (like factory presets) have more than 128 presets we should figure out a way.

  • I love how you guys are staying on top of this and listening to the users

If you can create a synth that is really easy to use live, with an uncluttered interface, and BIG FONTS!, , I really think you could have the best iPad app for using live, in front of people.

Sorry if I keep sounding like a broken record on this (and in other posts), but it amazes me the fonts on 20 year old LCD screens are bigger than used in most iPad synths with 8 inches of visual real estate!

Thanks for these recommendations. Is anyone else have any opinions about the expansions?

The UI is being redesigned, and for sure the preset fonts will be big

    Cool

Does that mean there is the potential for ARP and Freg Modulation, true ADSR with of presets in the future?

    Thanks

I really like some of the World Sounds, but have also found worthwhile noise in each of the packs I've bought.

I went old school...cause you know, I'm old. But I really like The Historic Synth Giants packs (I have vols 1 and 2). They contain sounds from Genesis, Floyd, Emerson, Wakeman, Vangelis, and more.

The Dawn of Electronic Music packs are good, with sounds from Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, Tomita, Carlos, Jarre and many more. Vol 3 in this series has 100 presets for around $7.99. And so on a per sound basis, Vol 3 is a great deal, however, I found a few of the sounds lacking....but that's probably just me...YMMV.

BigTone Signature Series Vol 1 would have been my next purchase, but I've entered the SMP song contest, so I'm thinking I'll own all of the presets soon enough -- LOL.
