anyone using Mapping Tonal Harmony Pro for composing?

I'm really curious about this app as a tool for coming up with chord structures. I also afraid of it cause it looks so technically imposing. I would love to know if anyone finds it useful on any level for making music.

  • I've tried, but it is still fairly daunting. I do find that I get new bits each time I use it though and feel it's helped me understand musical structure a bit more.

  • Shhh ......... If you are thinking about raising your level of musical composition, just buy it! Rather than just pressing play or tweaking knobs on apps to see what comes out, this app maps out harmony for you. Start with simple progressions rather than going in at the deep end. If you want to develop your musical thinking, it's a no brainier. Many folks will not buy this app as it is not an instant gratification. Less than a fiver for a great learning aid? I also have the workbook and I can tell you that this app is no child's play but a great Tonic nevertheless. :)

  • very helpful input. thank you both! just bought it! excited about learning...

  • ... MTH Pro won't show up as a virtual midi port, nevertheless there's the possibility of it sending it's midi out to cubasis, where I could actually record tapped chords as well as the player's recorded chord sequence ('virtual midi in' on a midi track) and send it to the loopers of firo ('midi thru' resp. Fiddlewax pro midi dest. 'midi out'). Not perfect, but a phenomenal composition field, imho.
