Sooooooooo close to buying Gadget ** I bought it ** So far so good

Convince me or not. Just had a birthday and got some iTunes credit that I am afraid will explode unless I spend them. Also thought about the FX and Audio Import for the LaunchPad app.

  • Top app!!! Must have app!!!

  • I've got a birthday tenner burning a hole in my pocket too, so also hunting for an app...

I've already got Gadget and most of the IAP's. I think it's fair to say it's one of the best music apps ever made.

  • Definitely get it. I thought I didn't want it as I am mostly guitar-based, but it's completely changed everything I do. It's a really well thought out app with a great workflow, a joy to use.

  • Gadget is terrific. No "buts" about it. I'm not using it as much as I thought I would because I still gravitate towards my external instruments. If you like LaunchPad, it sounds like you enjoy electronic music. Gadget is a must-have app for electronic musicians in particular.

  • Gadget is the closet to a "does it all" in the AppStore

It rarely needs input from other apps

The sheer variety and quality of the gadgets is unprecedented

It's super stable on newer devices

It doesn't just sound good, it looks good too

It gets updated with more gadgets quite frequently

What genre do you wish to make?

  • I play acoustic guitar mostly but I recently started teaching myself piano. I really like and enjoy all music and can appreciate any style of music from electronic to jazz to country to rock. I like classical and movie scores as well.

I would like to blend some styles together, I have not found a workflow that fits me yet which is one reason that gadget is very appealing. It seems it provides an efficient workflow to get things done.

  • Even that Windows dude in that Sonic State video said that Gadget is a great app

You can even enter that remix contest now again while the demo songs are still fresh to you and win an Electribe or something.

  • @firejan82 do you have a link to that?

You guys almost have me convinced.

  • or did you mean the Sonic State video?

  • @firejan82 thanks. I was talking about the contest but if you have the link to the Sonic State video you could post that as well.

I've just got hold of an iRig Pro and was jamming live guitar earlier with Gadget, it's quick and easy to knock together a simple beat and bassline in Gadget, and makes a great backing to play along or record to.

  • What's the point of owning an ipad without korg gadget on it ...

  • @gmslayton It's just a few words but it's kind of nice to hear it from someone who's there to promote Windows 10 I mean they are still catching up and he is praising an app that only runs on iOS, hoping and stuff, it's about 40 minutes in

    http://www.sonicstate.com/news/2015/08/07/podcast-special-windows-10-facts-with-microsofts-principal-program-manager/

he is stretching it a little though. It doesn't do everything

  • Go ahead. Gadget's a game changer. I'm a guitarist who likes to work in Auria, and use Gadget as a drum machine, synth player (can't play keys worth a damn but the piano-roll editor is the best I've seen yet) and then paste all my stems into Auria.

As other's have suggested, it's like a good operating system ... it gets out of the way and just lets you work.

  • From the person who is usually talking people out of buying apps, buy gadget, it's fantastic. In fact, one of the reasons I am holding off on buying more is because there are so many things to explore in gadget that I've yet to try, even after using it a lot.

My dream is reason on the iPad, but gadget is very very close to that (at least the early versions of reason I used to use, I haven't tried past v4).

  • Among the hundreds of apps that I own, Gadget would be my "must-have". I've also purchased all of the add-ones as well (Abu Dhabi, Bilbao, iM1, Module).

  • It's not perfect (but what is ?) but I'd say it's been the best thing I bought on the iPad. It's the one app that I can actually make full tracks with.

  • I think best thing is to "hear the end results" of gadget users..suggest we all help him out here

This is my latest gadget track, deep emotive progressive house

  • Well said..

  • Me too..did a few with Nanostudio but was nowhere near as happy with the results as I am with gadget ..

  • I'm a guitar player as well. But I'm more into rock music and I haven't got into gadget as much cause it seems more geared towards dance, electro type music. I haven't bought the samplers cause I wonder if they'll just not get used.
Anyone use the samplers to build good sounding acoustic drums? Sort of the type Rock Drum Machine has?
If so, which to get? Abu or Bilbao?

  • Enablers!

Gadget is absolutely boss. And while you can do many things with it, it is decidedly bent towards creating electronic dance music entirely within itself. For lots of people (including me), this is a decidedly good thing™. Just know it is what it is.

Another thing to be clear on before purchasing is that it's very much loops+sections based. I think 32 bars is the max for a given section, maybe 64. If you're used to a linear timeline (like cubasis/auria/nano/bm2...) it can take some getting used it.

@gmslayton what do you feel like is missing from you music making process right now? I think you'd get more interesting answers if you started a thread like "I have X dollars, help me spend it" and describe a bit about your music and music making. Gadget is a great app but it's not necessarily going to propel you along your musical journey simply by virtue of it being a great app.

Buy it - Buy it - Buy it.

  • @syrupcore Thats some great advice. I am not really missing anything beside time to actually get things done and a little inspiration. I work better under pressure and when I am facing a deadline. Sadly I have no musical deadlines except the ones I put on myself. Its always just for my pleasure and enjoyment.

I love loopy and seem to get the most things done when using it so I thrive on looped based music production. I do have a good grasp on both linear and clip based music production.

As far as electronic music goes, I do love it and would like to remix and create some EDM type songs for worship at church and that just have a good and positive message. I turn off so many great sounding Electronic song because of the lyrics. I want to create some that my kids can enjoy.

Then it will be $30 well spent for those reasons. More positive messages in the world, religious, spiritual, or otherwise is a good thing. I think there's enough "in da club ruling the dance floor drunk on petron hands in the air apple bottom jeans twist on me all night like a tornado" songs to last us for a while! ;-)

  • Oh, and it's very easy to export stems if you want to mix in Auria, use in loopy, etc.

  • @mrufino1 it might be a good workflow also to use it to build up some stems for importing into the launchpad app, maybe.
