Slicer app

Hey everyone. I love the iPad and I'm glad to stop lurking and join the discussion. I propose an app that I would love to code and sell myself. That cannot happen as I have no idea how to do anything on iOS. Someone should make a simple audio editor with transient detection ala recycle that can split the slices into separate, exportable, named files. Hell, just find a way to recreate recycle for iOS if propeller heads will not do it. Now!

  • I don t have it to confirm really, but I think Strom does that ? Am I correct ?

  • Looks cool though it looks abandoned. I'm thinking how this idea needs to basically rip off Rex files or propeller heads take care of biz. I want to take a drum beat, split it into 85 or whatever different hits, then auto export into audio share to make a hit bank.

  • Don't know if it does exactly what I'm after but thanks for the suggestion

  • I personnally use audioshare "snap to beat " directly, its ok for a short loop not so for 85 hits

  • BeatMaker has nice tools for this, no auto detect tho. Beat Twirl does just what you want, but hasn't been updated in so long I'm not sure if it's of good use to you.

  • I'll check i t out thanks. Just think, you could slice, export, then open in dm1 or diode or something super quack

  • egoist does something like what you're talking about. honestly i don't care much for transient detection because it never slices up a sample the way i want it to, i always end up slicing the thing myself.

  • concur, but still want it anyway

  • Beat Twirl. It's the only one that exports slices.

But I am finding it crashes a fair bit.

  • The transient detection is pretty great. And it exports all slices as a zip of numbered wav files.

For drum beats it's great. Just auto detect and export.

I just got the crashing while arranging my own slice markers on a kind of arp with a lot of stereo delay.

  • Egoist is my favorite. It has a lot of options to modify each slice.

I'm having a weird time with Egoist exports.

When I try to export a 16 beat pattern from the pattern tab, I get an empty WAV file.
When I try to slim down a part, so that it replicates the pattern (16 beats), it exports w/ 12 beats (truncated)
When I try to make a SONG out of (1) pattern / (1) part, the app freezes w/ spinning load circle. Have to quit out.

In short, it doesn't seem to want to let me export simple 16-beat patterns as a WAV.

    Any insights?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Sadly egoist export died not too long ago. Used to work ok.

  • @Icepulse I don't know why it's doing that.It used to work.

  • Anyone use TRAKTOR?

    Limited to iTunes library importing?

    PASSSSSSS.......

  • @Icepulse I can export a 16 beat pattern in Egoist 1.0.8 from the Egoist tab using the, "BOUNCE AUDIO/SHARE" button and then export it to Audioshare. Your waves will change depending upon the bpm you have and which slicer time base you choose.

Not for me. Cuts off the last three or four beats every time, no matter which slicer timebase option is selected.

Also with Traktor, it's all auto transient detection. I love Traktor on a macbook, Traktor on iOS is another story.

  • @Icepulse the other variable you might want to look at is the length of your sample slices. My sample slices are fairly short.

  • bump for any new ones? Looking for one that doesnt need a host to say too, almost like a tremolo.
Eventide has their tremolo, any others?

The OP was talking about slicer apps. Reslice and sEGments would be the current ones in addition to Egoist.

If you are looking for tremolo take a look at WOV and VOLBot. Perhaps also Koshiba although that’s more of a gate effect.

The Auditor audio editing app, has a great slicer built-in. It can export the slices and also a MIDI file to go with them to recreate the original loop...and can export in AppleLoop format with embedded slice markers that apps like GarageBand, BeatHawk, and BeatMaker can use.

  • Good point :+1:
