Video - Sampling/ReSampling using NanoStudio

Hi all

Here is a sampling workflow that works well for me, and hopefully some of you too.

Happy to answer questions you may have.

  • Thanks! Pretty fast turn around on that video.

  • Cheers @BvsMV. I could of had it up a couple of days ago but I'm just getting over a cold, so had to do a voiceover and edit out the coughing !

It's a great way of getting more sounds into a track without breaking the CPU bank. Of course these principles work with any app that has the 'open in' option.

  • Nice work and thanks for sharing it. Why not just sample the nave sounds directly into NS? You can edit/trim there and do 'save as a copy' in order to keep your original in tact. Here's how I do it.

    1. Sample a bunch of drum sounds into a single TRG pad
    2. Save it
    3. Copy the pad to as many different pads as I think I'll need (not the sample, the pad using NS' pad copy feature)
    4. Edit Pad -> Edit sample to set the start/end for each pad
    5. Rinse and repeat.

When you copy the pad you can either make a duplicate of the original sample or reference the original. Either way works but if you reference the original be sure to 'save as' instead of 'save' when you go to edit each one!

Here's to hoping NS2 has a chop to pads feature.

  • Good question, thanks @syrupcore. You're right, everything I did in the vid can be done in Nano, as all I did was cut out sounds.

I think the nano editor is ok for basic edits but I can get a bit more creative/precision with Twisted Waves functions. I use it as a hub for sounds/ loops I make, that can be sent to most apps.
