Shattered iPad 4 screen, help!
I thought I'd check in here for advice. I just dropped and shattered my iPad 4 screen and wondered if anyone here has done the replacement themselves? How difficult is it? Everything still seems to work fine so do I just replace the screen or the lcd also?
Thank you in advance, cheers

Noooooo!!!
I Replaced an iPhone 5 screen this year, relatively easy. I think the LCD/ glass is one unit so you replace them both together. Same for iPads I think.
Ouch. Dude, I'm sorry.
I shattered my 4s and put scotch tape over the whole thing. Worked just fine for several months while I waited for the 6 to come out.
I would probably cry if this happened to me. Does it cut your fingers if you finger it now? Good luck with the replacement.
Thanks @Hmtx, after watching some videos it appears the screen is still separate on the 4. Prolly worth 20 bucks to give it a try. Thanks for the sympathy @syrupcore, maybe I'll try that heat shrink window stuff until I can get a new air 2.
I still may cry @firejan82. It's not too bad on the useable part of the screen, along the bevel edge it is destroyed..
I'd probably keep fingering till there's blood everywhere. Nothing wrong with that sentence, at all.
You must admit its all the cause of drumjam. Well these things happen once.
More that I'm a klutz. I've had so many close calls and yet still didn't put the case back on it.
My son dropped his iPad 3 and a slight hairline crack appeared, however he dropped it again and the result was similar to the pics posted at the top
Cost £45 for replacement glass, however, newer devices cost so much more to fix
Unless u have a very steady hand..highly advise u take it to a professional
I'm in southeast Michigan and quite a few of these 'we fix cracked ipad/iphone screens' places have popped up, myself i would go there because i am not at all a handyman.
Thanks touchconspiracy, I put a screen protector on it for now, at least now I won't cut myself. I watched a couple videos on screen replacement and it doesn't look too bad.
Might be worth a try at this point.
I spent the first 19 yrs of my life outside of Grand Rapids. Most of my family is still around those parts.
I'm usually into DIY, but when mine got cracked I just took it to a local cellular place.
Was just under a hundred bucks and I had it back the next day.
Sorry to hear that. My Mrs did the same with a day old iphone6! No insurance. Local bloke replaced screen but the chassis also got bent (which was very hard to see) so even with a new screen in it wouldn't sit completely flush & rocked a wee bit top to bottom. New chassis fixed it but just thought I'd mention the chassis issue as this meant even more cash. Good luck.
I'm not sure if my chassis is bent but all the corners are pretty banged up. I made the mistake of stopping in at Costco and playing with GarageBand on an air2 128g and now I can't stop thinking about that damn thing. $ 659.00! Not too bad.
$659 - $100 ebay sale of broken iPad 4 = not too bad at all.
