Final Touch Updated....but...
Final Touch has just been updated to fix a few bugs. One of these is the Stereo Processing graphic which stopped working with iOS 8.4.
It still isn't working right for me on a mini 2 with iOS 8.4 (not gone 8.4.1 yet). Anyone having any better luck? I've tried rebooting. I'll try deleting and reinstalling next.
Comments
Mine kept locking up when trying to export. I just deleted it and went back to Audio Mastering. Let us know if have any more luck with it.
No luck here either. I was excited about an update. Would like to use this app for something. Haven't been able to.
I did see that Positive Grid is working on some new mixing and mastering stuff.
Which might be cool, but...........they should fix this app first and perfect it.
Did they add editing or fades yet? I have gotten away from using things by that company because of the forging ahead with new products while leaving old ones incomplete and/or non working. I was actually thinking about this app this morning and had the thought that it would be much cooler as an auria plugin, as a whole and each part. Without editing it's not a mastering app, it's an effects processor.
Very good points. And yes, the new products/apps, leaving the old. It appears to be a thing with PG. JamUp. Now Bias FX, which I love and it sounds amazing. Now Final Touch, to some other type of mixing or mastering app/product. hmmm....
I wouldn't mind if they let a product for an "upgrade," as seems to be the case with jamup/bias, but they stopped any improvement to final touch to move on to other projects that were different. Maybe if they advertised it as "sort of working" that would be better? Anyway, I had good interactions with Calvin in the past, but somehow I lost my "zest" for any of their products. One reason may be that I stopped using any amp modeling on iOS after getting my zoom pedal, which does everything I need with less fuss to set up. Of course, since getting my ukulele bass I have had the zoom on the bypass setting most of the time and am just using it mostly as a tuner. But I digress...
It's still not working for me either; just shows a little yellow dot in the middle of the Stereo Processing graphic regardless of what settings I use. I can save user presets again now, though, so at least that's been fixed.
Not just me then. I'll try reinstalling when I get back from work later, but my hopes aren't high. It's a shame because this could be such a good app. I've used it in the past to finish off Gadget tracks as the mastering chain into Master Record and been pleased with the results. I really like the GUI and the overall sound I was getting. But the little things bug me and I found the stereo graphic really useful, especially as it has such extensive mid/side processing options.
And I don't get how a dev can list something as fixed on the app store and not have noticed that it is still broken ?!?
I used it on a song tonight with no apparent problems. Stereo processing was used & not faulty. I'm on an ipad 4, 8.4.
The graphic isn't doing anything but the stereo processing stuff is working. I was able to save a preset and then it locked up...
Looks like they may well be 'moving on' to a new mastering app as well. Same JamUp to Bias FX approach (?), which doesn't exactly endear me or to make future purchases with this company.
I get really good results (at least in my non-professional opinion) with Audio Mastering.

On second thoughts, it does work (the display) but in a rather subtle way. I should counter-balance my comments by saying that this is a really very good app for it's purpose, though I can't see the reasoning for including reverb in a mastering app ?
How subtle is subtle? This is what the Stereo Widener display shows on the demo song with the Wider With Bass Intact preset loaded on my iPad:
Try it on 'wide spread', I'II say though, that it's too subtle to be of much use...
Haha, yes I saw some flicker of movement in an 'X' shape using that preset... yeah it's very much faulty at the moment. Oh well, hopefully they'll fix it soon. It was really useful when it worked.
Its working fine here for me on IOS8.2
Selecting various presets has different effect on the stereo image and the does show action. I had a drum loop going and it does show action In there.
It used to have a much wider spread of particles that were actually useful for seeing the effect that the processing was having. More like this:
It never stopped processing, it's the display that is broken. If you turn up the input into the red you get flickers..and it has marginally improved with this update, but it used to look like the photo above. Given the mid/side options this really helped you understand what changing settings was doing. Of course, if you take away the visual feedback, you can still work with your ears, and there is a strong case for not using visuals at all when mastering, but I'm no expert, so the graphics help
Fair point in most circumstances. I'm deaf in one ear so I only hear in mono. That visualiser was one of my main reasons for choosing Final Touch. It was useful for seeing how other tracks compared to my own, as well as seeing the effect of changing the settings.
