My music collection is music I love listening too.. That's all there is to it. Many genres: classical music, jazz, hiphop, rock, grime, techno, d&b, pop, retro
My biggest influence are these 3 CDs.
Elvis live in Pearl harbor . You don't hear much of the music, all you hear is women screaming Elvis.
A jodel music sampler from the 50s from Texas
and a double cd recorded in an karaoke club in Tokyo with best of the Beatles.
a friend bought them for laughs.
I made a lovely Cocteau Twins/Robin Guthrie preset for Tonestack a couple of days ago
Back to the original question - all the music I have is just stuff I like. Unlike my art books, which I buy for working reference, my music is purely for my own listening pleasure.
That’s an interesting distinction.
My record collection is inspirational, my first bought album was a 1968 printing of Sgt. Peppers with all the stuff in it that I bought in '69. Great to have sitting on a shelf in my IPad studio looking at me. The others not so much.
When I'm not working, my two passions are art and music. Apart from band stuff, I'd never expect anyone to pay money to listen to what I do, so I just knock out whatever takes my fancy at that time. Making music for me is pleasurable escapism, with no boundaries as to style, skill, quality etc.
Art stuff is different - I'm trying to ease myself back into painting and selling my work again - so it's handy to see what's popular in the contemporary world, and how they achieve it. I guess is I was hoping to sell my music then I'd take the same approach to researching what the successful competition is up to.
What modules did you use?
Modules?
Amp, speakers, fx etc in Tonestack
My record collection is for recreational purposes and I have varied tastes. But I can't for the life of me write and record a song that fits neatly into a specific genre. I've tried many times but it always comes out sounding different. Almost every synth preset sounds good to me and sounds great when mixed with other sounds.
Ah sorry - I'll check and let you know!
