Apps that you would love to use, but just don't work for you

I'm on iOS 8.4 iPad Air 2

Here is my apps that I would love if they would just work properly with my iPad:

Thor - Love this synth, love Haq's Bell Sounds, but whatever I try, 40% of the time it makes a loud buzz at start up and the sound is gone till I restart my iPad. I only have this issue with Thor....such a shame.

Stroke Machine - Love the sounds this can make and works perfectly fine until I alter sound settings, then it often crashes.

Loopseque - fun app, but will not connect to Dropbox to load my sounds.

Which apps would you love to work for you?

  • I use StrokeMachine all the time, had no idea about this bug then tested by touching the oscillator - not nodes but in empty field around waveform - and there it was, and reproducible every time. I think it's only there if you aren't actually touching a parameter. Weird

  • I JUST DON'T get Elastic Drums. I wish I could, but for some reason it always confuses me and makes me feel queasy....

Yep that's one of the bugs. It does it in some other places too if you are changing multiple parameters.

    Is this Polyrhythm sickness? Lol

Yeah I've not bought Thesys yet, but I think my fat fingers might struggle with those tiny buttons.

  • Big pain if you are making a new patch. I liked my test patch, then lost it in a crash when I touched the screen in the wrong spot. Reminds me of my early dating years.

I keep telling my wife that she is my synth, but she drew the line when I tried to plug my midi cable in....

  • iVCS-3... I love how it sounds but I just don't understand how it works... even after viewing Digital Jeepney's videos :(

Two apps I have and have not got a clue how to use properly. IVCS-3 I can noodle on....Sunvox looks like I need to read a very thick manual or watch someone explain it very sloooooowly....

  • Sunvox.

    Different drummer.

    Tiny Thesys

Elastic drums (although I think one day I'll get it into a track)

Cubasis (because of the piano roll )

    Lots of others

To be honest, most apps fit into the "that's cool but it doesn't xxxxxxx therefore I barely use it"

  • Mitosynth and Filtatron. MitoSynth because ot the sound latency when adjusting fx/settings and Filtatron because it never worked with audiobus.

  • Mixtikl !

It's such a weird small thing, it seems to only happen if u touch (double tap really does it) an empty area of the GUI, most notably in an empty space of the oscillator's wave form display. Id never noticed the bug because there aren't too many empty areas in the GUI of this application!

I guess the obvious workaround is don't be double tapping in an empty area of the GUI.

I wrote W. Franke to let him know about the bug.

@nib_b_nice, @Matt_Fletcher_2000, are y'all including Sunvox because you are finding glitches or its idiosyncrasies or?

Filtatron is on the bus for some time now

For me: ivcs.. Not sure how does it 'work'

Flux fx, maybe too complex for me

    And
Alchemy, bc i didnt buy addons and have nothing to restore

Attack - no iaa sync, weird limited midi, no automation, no export.... I am not saying it needs all but how about just one 8)

Gestrument. At first go, it sounds like throwing an orchestra down the stairs. Months later, it still does. Mainly because I use it for a few minutes then put it down (like most apps) but in this case there’s an identifiable reason. It’s back to front. I’ve experimented with putting the iPad upside down and trying it, and it feels far more ‘correct’ that way up. Except the writing is now the incorrect orientation. I think the problem is that it’s not matching my intuitive expectations of where higher and lower frequencies should be placed, nor the “busy-ness” of the note generation. I’d expect the busier, the more toward my left, and less busy or less important or less significant further over there to the right. It would feel more natural if the higher the frequency, the nearer to me it is, and the lower the frequency the further away from me it is. So, as a result, nice idea but incorrect way round. I’d like it a lot more than about 90 seconds at a time if I could flip the axes.

@u0421793 I think in Gestrument you have the option of putting high notes on top or on bottom by instrument? Though most presets are programmed the way you mention.

  • @Proto said:

Filtatron works for me in the effects slot. I haven't tried it in the input slot though. With it in the effects slot, you should be able to use system input in the input slot and accomplish the same thing. I haven't tried this either, but it might work.

  • Odd how people's minds are different. High notes at the top low notes at the bottom seems quite intuitive to me.

I spent a little time trying to figure it out but it just doesn't flow for me.

I do like some aspects of it but overall I find it frustrating

Daunting UI mainly. Steep learning curve. But I haven't spent much time with it for that reason. Same with DD.

  • Probably won't be too popular around here, but I just can't see how I might use Samplr or Loopy in an interesting way. I'm sure they are great apps, but just not for me.

  • Must add one to my list....Tabletop......keep trying it, but something just does not gel. If it had some Gadget DNA in its recording side, then it may become more useable.....or maybe I just don't get it!

This is exactly what i mean (use audiobus for the line-in in filtatron). This never worked because the volume is too low and you only hear a high pitching sound.

  • Loopy, iMPCPro, iMini, Flux FX, iElectribe, Guitar Capo, Earhoof, Thesys - probably nearly £100's worth of apps there I've never used or got on with.

  • @Proto...don't have a chance to try the system ip, but it works fine with TJ. You should be able to swap TJ with your system ip...

    Audiobus preset 'Filtatron Effect': http://preset.audiob.us/F52ugROJNn2VUdA
