Air 1 or 2.. Is there a big difference?
How big of a difference is there between the iPad Air 1&2.
I used to have an air 1 but sold it for quick cash (long story)
Now I want to buy another because it was awesome for app performance. But I am looking at the air 2 also. Would I be looking at a noticeable difference in power if I spend the extra for the 2?

Seems like a big performance bump
There's a big difference for music production. The Air 2 has double the RAM (2 GB) and is the only iPad that can all of the new features of the new iOS.
Wait for the new one in Sept
Ok noted. iPad Air 2 it is then. Thanks
I was but apparently it's pushed back to oct/nov.
Also it's no doubt going to be about $1000 aud. Not sure if I'm willing to spend that on my hobby
I can pick up a 32gb iPad Air 2 for $500
Get Air 2, even if the new iPad comes out before christmas it will be a few months before it is stable for music judging from what happened in the last couple of years.
Having had both, I didn't notice a huge difference between them, but I should say I wasn't working on large projects in Auria or anything like that. For Gadget, there isn't much in it. I'm sure over time though, that new apps will start to tax the iPads CPU more, so future-proofing with the Air 2 is probably prudent.
I will say that I think some of the benchmarks that the geeks do, don't mean much to us musicians.
As an Air1 user I have been thinking about waiting for the new machine to come out on the basis that Air2s should be even more reasonable to pick up then. If I have the discipline. Unlikely, but pretty to think so etc.
I held out on the Air 2 for months, due to impending Pro arrival rumours. 6 months later....
I have a 64gb Air 2. I have 5gb left. What ever you buy, if you can save up for more than 32gb, go for it. I'm still kicking myself for not getting the 128gb model.
I'm kicking myself for not getting the 256 and they don't even make them.
If they start the pro model at 16gb it will be a right Homer Simpson moment!
I can't criticize getting the 128 GB model but I will say going with 32 GB model, or even the 64 GB model (which is what I have), can help you be a little more organized and more focused. With so much space there is the tendency to let apps like Audioshare fill up with lots of bits and parts you'll never use. You also might feel like you can just keep piling on the new apps that are the latest flavor of the month.
Hangs my head in app shame....
I have air 2 with 128 gigs, it runs favorite apps known for glitches, glitch free. Also accommodates huge AS and AC (and BM2) sample libraries.
I don't want to miss out on the kicking though, so I'm thinking about kicking other people. Or habits. Maybe kick the habit of kicking myself.
I have an Air 2 64GB, I have 41.2 GB left. I tend to be careful about what I install and what I decide to keep and monitor what eats up space.
This prudence comes with working with 128GB system SSD drives
I want it all on my plate and I want to gorge on it and lay enormous in my bed at night secure in the knowledge that all that will kill me waits bathed in fat and ready to do my bidding.
But I'm working on it.
I try to keep focussed.....but LOOK NEW APP !!!!............."
Another advantage of waiting till the fall is that the remaining stock of the Air 2 will go on sale at various outlets.
Air 1 here, will be playing with it until air 4 will come up
Haha it's funny but I've never owned an iPad over 16GB (and I've owned 4 up until now) so 32GB is a big upgrade for me
Multiple iPads is the way forward
I don't buy new iPads as a rule. But I would possibly break that rule for an iPad pro. Just don't see it being in my price range unfortunately
Yeah multiple iPads are where it's at. I will be buying the air2 to compliment my old ipad3. Right now my ipad3 is held together with duct tape so I won't ever be able to sell it lol. It was dropped badly and the base is so badly damaged that I can't even replace the screen as a new one won't fit without cracking. But it still works so I'm happy. I will be using the ipad3 for samplr, audiobus remote, and modstep. Air2 for patterning, gadget, cyclop, egoist, and elastic drums.
