Stompwatch 1.1 updating....
Improved support for Audiobus Remote triggers -- press and release now turn notes on and off.
Also, there's full support for the ION iCade game controller. This thing has physical buttons, and you can detect both press and release (unlike regular Bluetooth keyboards). So, if you've been looking for an inexpensive MIDI foot controller, you might want to check this thing out. I have an iCade Core that I picked up for about $18 a while ago -- I think a half off sale. The Amazon price seems to vary a bit, and they're currently $35. I also have a little handheld iCade Mobile, which is designed for iPhones; that was less than $10. Both work, but for a put-it-on-the-floor-and-step-on-it, the Core is probably your best bet.
Stompwatch has to be in the foreground if you're using a Bluetooth keyboard, or the iCade. I've been using this with one of my old iPhones, and then sending MIDI over Bluetooth to control things on the iPad. A heck of a lot cheaper than an FCB1010, and supremely hackable. I'll be putting up a video of my DIY pedal board in a few days; you can open up the Core and extract the guts fairly easily.

The CC controllers have been adjusted too -- so you can now assign a pad to a CC value, and slide to make changes. Works nicely with Animoog knobs, for example.

Very nice update SBD. Just had to remember to up the velocity for AB Remote. Would love to see a short video on how you use the iCade game controller. Many thanks.
Thanks Patrick! The update for CC looks to have what I was hoping for...checking it out soon.
Here's a video to show some of the new features....
That's a beefy update. Super cool, thank you!
Can't wait to give it a spin later this eve. Thanks for the cc slides!!
Dude, these app guys are sick. I am so happy. I was wanting to rock icade with turnado , do you have any tips?
Like joystick could be the rotary knobs on the fx, or maybe the fx speed from 4th to 16th notes?! HA, amazing ideas. I do need some help though just getting stopwatch and icade to work with apps, or more specifically what steps to take. Also, ideas for how to really make it killer. Of course the drum machine for buttons comes to mind, but let me know what you all think I should try. I have a grip of apps. THANKS!
Also, are there any special settings in stopwatch or audiobus/apps that I should muck with as far as the button presses and joystick. B4 the buttons would trigger once on depress and again on release, but I think you figured that out. IS this just kinda plug and play as far as this aspect of icade and stopwatch? SICKness yo, I'm so psyched.Hails
Im giving this a shot now and I'll check in later....
Do you think the need to have Stompwatch in the foreground would eventually be resolved? How does the IK Blueboard app receive Bluetooth in the background?
For connecting to the iCade or a Bluetooth QWERTY keyboard, Stompwatch has to be in the foreground -- both send key stroke messages on key presses, and Apple blocks a background app from receiving these. This makes a lot of sense -- if Apple didn't do this, there would be key loggers all over the app store, quietly waiting for you to type in a password. I think there's zero chance that Apple will allow a background app to catch keystrokes (and they plugged a hole that was in iOS a few years ago, where it might have been possible to do it).
The IK Blueboard (and Apollo MIDI over Bluetooth, and Apple's Bluetooth MIDI stuff) uses a different Bluetooth transfer mechanism, which is allowed to run in the background. The newer stuff works with Bluetooth LE only too -- the older iOS devices don't have the right radio and chips.
Ok, so can I run stopwatch on my old iPhone in the foreground and then rock iPad apps like normal? Or is it the iPad stopwatch that needs to be in foreground? Do I run stopwatch on both devices? Thanks yo, I'll try again here in a bit...
Also, what are the default cc or program changes for icade ? Thanks
It works! Amazing! Proof for myself haha. 12 sec clip...
IF I can get get iphrophet with the joystick of icade as vector control all hell will break loose(in a good way!)
So an bit of help: In turnado I would enjoy the joystick icade to be one of the chaos style pads. How might I accomplish this? I also just want to turn fx on and off with buttons, and I've randomly had success but thats the last question. Getting rolling with this is awesome so far, just nailing down some small points. Ps loopy is dope with it, slamming them arcade buttons like street fighter for looping is just cool!
For the iCade joystick -- it doesn't support anything other than the four directions (up/down/left/right), so you can't really use it as an XY pad. With the current version of Stompwatch, the joystick up or left triggers pad 1, and down or right triggers pad 6. I've designed it so that the two easy ways to kick the joystick with your foot would map to two pads (the rest of the iCade has 8 buttons, that are mapped to the remaining 8 pads).
AHh, I see. Thanks!
Ok, so I am kind of the world (thanks to this app team) rocking the icade and iPad. So cool da cats can't even touch me, haha.
However, I need help mapping it with turnado. I understand the joystick is more or less 4 buttons and thats ok, but I can't get anything working in turnado with icade/stompwatch.
*do I need stopwatch keyboard button light? as if the icade were a bluetooth keyboard?
* also I think I need stopwatch in foreground, is this possible with a different device like iPhone?
*I think the main problem is turnado has many options and "ignore cc" plus more. If anyone can help me here I will love you forever. Do I want cc or pr changes? What settings in turnado do i need? I can't get midi learn to work but then I think maybe I need stopwatch app in foreground so I get confused.
I hope this makes sense, thanks!
I'd like to point out it works much easier with other apps. Like animoog for ex. That was like plug and play almost.
