iPad interface that would support 24bit DAC to balanced out

edited August 2015 in General App Discussion

Looking for such device for two purposes:

— live output of synth/sample sound from iPad

— play lossless mixes and generally lossless tracks at home

BTW does anybody use iPad as a lossless player at all? experience?

If you are only interested in playback, the Topping NX-2 in combination with the camera connection kit could tick your boxes. It is a cheap D/A-converter and headphone-amp. (but I doubt that this will give a huge quality-improvement over the iphone/ipad converters. I think they are already quite good.)

  • Thanks @Earsinn, ideally I'd like record/sample in 24bit too. So 1-2 instrument/line inputs will be even better.
What important is also to have balanced out so it will work better with long cables for monitors or with mixer for live use.

I'm using the iConnectAudio 4+ and like it very much. It offers lots of routing-options, 4 balanced outputs 2 balanced and 2 uncalanced inputs. Of course also 24 bit processing. It may be somewhat oversized for your needs but it is a solid interface with good build-quality. It also offers midi in/outputs via USB or DIN.

The main-reason for buying this for me was, that it charges the ipad and an additional iphone. There are not many interfaces on the market, which are able to charge an iOS-device. Apgee Duet could be an other option, but I think it is pricier.

If you don't need the iOS-device keeping charged, many normal USB-audio interfaces for desktop devices can be used with the camera connection kit.

  • You definitely want an Apogee Duet IOS. 24-bit/192 kHz, 2 balanced outs.

  • +1 on the iConnectAudio4+ especially at $300. With all the routing options you'll probably find other uses for it as well.

  • We all have our faves. Mine are the FocusRite series.

  • wow heaven't realised that iConnectAudio4+ is finally shipping and firmware quite stable, did follow for a while,
seems like a perfect all-in-one interface!

thank you guys, seems like i found it :-)

  • Another +1 for the iCA4+. Its already just another tool for me, I always have it plugged in when I do anything music related. So much you can use it for. Totally love mine.
