Sundog Scale Studio(Mac OS x and Windows)

Here is my latest article at www.Audionewsroom.net
http://audionewsroom.net/2015/08/sundog-scale-studio-music-creation-helper.html

Sundog works really great paired with Midimux to control your iOS synths.

I will do a few videos to showcase it later on next week.

  • Can you make unconventional chord progressions with it? Or are the chords always locked to the scale you chose?

  • You can create your own chords @firejan82

  • Don't know if Hauke would do it but Sundog could work well on the iPad.

  • @knewspeak Thanks for the answer, but I'd like to make sure - I suspect that the notes on offer for you to create chords with are from the pre-chosen scale?

  • @firejan82 So to answer your question. I think yes and no. From what I can tell, the chords have to be in the scale and there is not a straight all notes, chromatic scale. So that answer is no you cannot use non scale notes. I can ask the developer if he could add in a chromatic scales so that you can use untraditional chords.

There are however 300+ scales and each of the song parts can have a different scale and a different root note. So you can work around it just choosing a weird scale to go along with a non traditional chord and using song mode to switch between the patterns. The great thing is that a pattern can be 1 bar long.

    Does that make sense?

  • Also @firejan82 here is a list of the scales included in the full version.

  • Thanks @gmslayton

I was hoping that it could do unconventional chord progressions and then the scale for the bass and lead melodies would change accordingly to the chords. I wonder if there is such a software.

  • @firejan82 Give me an unconventional chord progress and I can see if I can get the software to do what want it to. I know that it will follow the scale or chord notes for melodies and bass.

  • @gmslayton

    F#maj7 - A#maj7 - C#maj7 - Fmaj7

  • @firejan82 I sequenced ThumbJam with the chords you provided. I could have done a lot more but this was mainly proof of concept.

  • @gmslayton 1974 or thereabouts. Something by Andrei Tarkovsky. A running shot. Slow motion. It ends uncertainly. Ivan leaves.

  • @gmslayton Nice one! Did it find a scale that includes all the notes of those chords? I should try the demo and see for myself...

  • @firejan82 I did not search for a particular scale. I used 4 different 2 bar song parts, in which I just changed the root note and had it cycle through the different parts.

@gmslayton I see. That could work. Thanks
