I liked this app a lot in its first incarnation, but lack of save made it fall into the 'not serious' category. Adding this ability now is huge. Sir Doug did a pre-release vid back in April:

which will largely give the flavor (just add save etc .
Very good for song writing I think. In the same ball park as Session Band, but -as a writer- far better because it's response, ability to hear juxtapositions etc, is far more immediate/intuitive.
Decent and responsive developer who still has some growth room, but I am going to write SOTMC September with this app.
Does it have MIDI output?
@JohnnyGoodyear
I find the look and feel of it really nice. but how is it possible to make chord progressions longer than four chords? or is it really limited to four chords? do you find that sufficient for song writing?
I'm really excited about this too. I was amazed at the quality of the arrangement I was able to create just by trial and error, messing with the variations of each part.
If you hit the little three bullets/circles in the top right hand corner you can set tempo and also change the measures from 4 to 8 if desired. Also change key as desired (plus major/minor) and other things. As mentioned there are still other things (inc Midi) to come (don't know the development plans here), but works well in AB etc. Quality is good, variation is excellent, and super easy to use/generate ideas.
ah! "measures" in preferences can upgrade it to 8 chords
Not as far as I can see......but it's an excellent 'writer'.
ah thanks! just found it while you typed it.
yes, I agree quality is good, variation is good, the whole experience is very playfull and intuitive. great little app
Yes it is. TBH it falls into the 'feel a bit selfish about this and would prefer others to skate on by' category, but we're a small group
I really like the TPR interface and sounds, and I totally understand that great things can be done with it as it is. Personally however I would like to see it as a possible alternative or complement to stuff like Chordbot, Yamaha MMS, maybe even iReal Pro which are all (to me) apps to compose entire MIDI songs (or backing tracks) on. For that to be a reality, there is a nice list of 'top requests' compiled by the dev himself and posted on the TPR forum, and I'm anxiously waiting for them to happen!
Outstanding app. And the samples are quite good, even at different tempos. I have two nearly completed pieces that feature various Tin Pan Rhythm accompaniment tracks in the final mix. And Tin Pan definitely helped inspire the song composition for both. It's super easy to dial variations in.
For $3.00, you just can't go wrong. Even if it helps you write only one song, 3 bucks is totally worth it.
Yeah, it's a really nice tool. I've used MIDImorphosis with soloed tracks on Tin Pan and that actually works pretty nicely as a workaround.
Can't wait to hear the new stuff!
