I've been waiting on the Pro, so i hope these are correct!
It will be very expensive, probably delayed somewhat, but......a USB port.
I sense Christmas.
I'm very interested to see what the iPad Pro will be..... BUT...... i will be very very dissapointed (yes even more compared to their latest updates if it just runs that stupid limited smartphone OS. Sorry, but where is the post pc area? For sure they bump up the RAM and CPU and maybe other parts like the flash/SSD and whatever but no way it would be ever usable as full computing device when they cripple a powerful tool due software.
So last chance Apple to get me on an iPad again! Computers were less powerful years ago but they still had more RAM and a full OS.... and a full web browser.... and and and....
My minimum wishes: 4GB RAM, 256GB space, fast SSD like the newest MacBooks, at least one additional USB (latest of course) and most important an tablet OS if not even finally OS X - iOS hybrid or dual boot! Or i will bite the apple
I can't wait for the new watch band, it's going to revolutionize time!!!!!! ;-)
I expect and believe all does things are included on the iPad pro, it makes the most sense, everything except the OS X - iOS hybrid. anything more powerful than that would be unrealistic and anything less powerful than that would be a dissapointment.
The pundants keep pitching the iPad Pro as possibly serving a niche market; namely enterprise. What do they want to do, just see more of their spreadsheets' rows and columns on one larger screen? How about photographers, videographers, artists and illustrators, medical technology applications, certain uses in higher education, and of course, the music industry?
As a graphic artist, photographer, illustrator and musician, I would really like to see a hybrid Mac OS/iPad iOS. However, I would spring for it as soon as it becomes available; even if it remains (unfortunatley) iOS only. I need more power, more storage space, more expandability, etc.
I really need to run CAD and would love to see more UI's for iOS. You can't run real SolidWorks style CAD currently, but maybe in the near future maybe?
Only 2 g of ram?
In some ways I suspect we are talking to the future or just waiting for the future to come back and score our guesses and imaginings.
My only two thoughts about an iPad Pro (or its equivalent) is that a) it is and has been inevitable and b) then I look at my beloved unused iPad1 sitting on the same desk to my Air and I realize that I want the Air version (by comparison) of the iPad Pro1.
But who can wait those five years without spending the money in between times?
I was holding out for a Pro, but gave in early this year and went for an Air 2. I was worried I'd feel I'd made a bad move when the Pro finally came out, but on reflection I don't think the Pro will be for me - the Air 2 has more than enough power and RAM for my needs, and the size is perfect - any bigger and I might as well get my laptop out, and use Logic instead.
USB is mighty useful, as would be a hybrid OS, but I'm not tempted just by a bigger screen.
iPhone timing's good though - my 3 year old iPhone 5 is having problems with the charging port, so a 6s is definitely on the cards this autumn...
If it actually lands... I seriously doubt it will have 4 gigs of ram, sadly. Also think it'll be called the iPad Air Plus to match the phone naming scheme and, crucially, to take the planet's varying definitions of what it means to be a 'pro' device immediately and decidedly out of the equation.
If the rumors about the stylus are true at least it will be funny to watch the tech internet shit itself in every direction for a few days.
Most of the rumours seem to be predicting 2gb of RAM. It would be very typical of Apple to bring out something less powerful than most users are hoping for - I reckon you're right, more of an Air Plus, particularly as they're not refreshing the Air range this year. Like the sound of the stylus though...
Exactly !! This is how I feel too. I bought the iPad 1 and watched year by year as the iPads became exponentially better.. But like you I will find it hard to wait. At least the second hand market will be flooded with Air2's soon
I just don't need a bigger midi controller..... a computer with touch screen And no.... windows is no choice since i can't use Logic there.
I really can't longer accept how they cripple these devices. Sure it is a new platform but my opinion is it doesn't have to evolve like the desktop systems since everything is still here. All the mobile OS are just touch optimized derivates from the desktop OS.
The main bottleneck would be the RAM (and no file system!) since the CPU are not that bad. I would love to have choices about the RAM i buy like it's used in their computer line.
Also if that iPad pro gets more RAM it would need special "pro" apps which uses all this resources (Logic f.e. .
For web browsing and consuming while laying on the couch it would be too big and clumpsy. Here my iPad Air is nearly perfect.
The split screen and using 2 apps side by side could be indeed interesting (even as midi controller) but that alone is not worth about 1000? bucks.
Then if it still starts with 16GB space..... no go! At least every idevice should start with 32GB.
So even if i wish it but i doubt that an iPad Pro could be usable as workstation for me. At the moment the coming MacBooks pro 15" are the only apple devices which i am interested in. The new skylake models could be a good step forwards.
I would sell my current Macbook because you get still good money and i would upgrade in a heartbeat..... if they don't cripple the hardware again in some ways!
1000 bucks for a tablet or smartphone.... these days i can't justify it anymore. I better pay double and have a full computing device.
I'm scared when they releasing the icar some day.
That all said.... maybe they surprise me again (like with the latest Logic update) and in a good way. I will look the event next week from my iPad Air and counting the "awesome" and "amazing" and "georgeous".
Force touch will be interesting for apps.. Also don't forget Roli are releasing something new on the same day as apples conference..
If it's a force touch midi controller app for the iPad pro then yeah, I'm probably buying one haha
https://www.roli.com
Fource touch could be indeed add a third dimension on an iPad screen..... but still more usable as midi device. That seaboard is a bit expensive.... but would like to see what they release next.
Also Intua wants to make a huge announcement in September...... maybe they come all together on stage on the Apple event and release a special powerful multi-touch device just for creating music!
...... one more thing...... the iPad Pro Music!
All interesting but if the developers start to charge pro prices for their force touch iOS software or complementary hardware this is unfortunately not for me. I can see a very small niche market with iOS apps costing over hunderds of dollars and special made hardware that will even more expensive. Makes me not happy.
Prices for roli.com hardware start from €2,199 up to €8,888
After a little euphoric phase and experienced now all the bugs in their latest software (including Logic 10.2) then remember what they did with the hardware..... i can't trust them in any area. Apple is the new Samsung!
I know others are not better..... but that doesn't help
I think whatever they release it will have a ton of limitations and bugs if you use it like a "pro"!
Today they are just overpriced and on par with all the others out there. Sadly
Apple needs to come up with an inter-app file management system for iOS besides their iCloud Drive to really make it pro. So you can save files to the iPad, on the iPad; and share the data seamlessly between apps that can read and write specific kinds of data. Cloud storage will also help to off-load projects, and restore when needed.
A pressure-sensitive touch surface would be great for musical expression, photoretouching and doing visual art. A larger surface area would also benefit the above.
It seems that Apple will not develop certain technologies unless pushed by its competitors; and then Apple takes its time implementing these features in a limited way. They have billions in cash, why can't they push the envelope?
Sadly it's also a common thing today to limit things because you need a new device every 2 years or so
----------"In addition to a larger 12.9-inch display, the iPad Pro is expected to include an A9 processor, 2GB of RAM, a Force Touch-enabled stylus, and perhaps USB 3.0 ports that will support peripheral devices. The tablet will run iOS 9.1, an update to iOS 9 that will debut in November when the iPad Pro launches."-------------
I know it's just speculation and rumors. But, it all sounds pretty boring. A9, bigger, Force Touch and maybe a usb. All good things, 2gb RAM is funny. Being called the pro and all.
It's like the article I posted a while back on here, I think it was called the big ipad or something. Not enough bling to make me want to buy one. Not enough pro. It's just "big".
Maybe I'm not seeing the appeal, and when it hits the market, I will want one so bad I can taste it. Guess we'll see.
2gig ram wtf!!! ......another generation rolls by leaving me wanting more....will have to see what Surface Pro 4 brings....dissapointing if true
I agree!
I think Surface Pro 4 will win this one? Especially, if Microsoft has the latest Skylake chips in them? I don't trust Apple no more?
I still think that as regards the surfaces it's a software issue not a hardware issue still very little windows music software is designed to run on touch with a small screen.
Or maybe I just need better glasses though I can use most of the IPad apps fine (exceptions being stuff like The sugar bytes stuff where they haven't redesigned the UI)
I sadly think Apple wins again.... even i find it wrong. Their marketing is just their strongest side! The hype slowed down but it is still there. And last but not least the iPhones are still the most important thing for them!
The memory upgrade path is clear for years to come. Next year it probably will have 4 gb...
Best to sit on the fence, then wait & see once they are both out. Then decide......Easiest thing is to make an opinion, & make wrong conclusions(or right ones)......
