iPadOS 15.2 released. Any experiences?

Just wondering if any early adopters can share any experiences, good or bad, with this update.

  • Just tapped 'Install Now' on my iPad Air 2...
macOS Monterey 12.1 is also out so I'll be 'off the grid' until everything is installed...

Just installed 15.2 on my iPhone and iPad. Looks fine till now, but it's too early to judge. I like the new 'Privacy report', you can see all the internet activity of an app. Very handy.

Nothin' much I care about, but judge for yourself ...

You get better logging of every apps network activities ;)
(In 15.2, turn it on under Settings -> Privacy -> App Privacy Report)

  • Everything looks fine under my initial testing.

They've still left out and have now officially delayed the main feature I want, Universal Control.

  • Says here that photo scanning is not coming until 15.3 or later

  • This release adds the parental control feature but doesn't add the scanning to the Photos App with iCloud syncing.

    I read the linked description.

While the new privacy settings are interesting, in the same moment they added the not-wanted scanning of our devices... bamm, there it is.

It seems that I need to stay at 15.1 for all times. Cannot support such a behavior.

I would assume the image scanning for this feature is only turned on if one elects for the child alerts. But you should do your own research on that point.

Except for that one accidental photo I took while trying switch to the front camera while taking a crap, I got no photos I would care if Apple scanned. :D

  • Fixes a fairly obscure MIDI problem in MTS that Apple introduced under one of the 15.x releases so I’m happy enough. Did not install on the first attempt however as it needed quite a big runway of 5 or 6GB free space which meant I had to delete a few apps first.

Yes. You need enough space to build a new system image, which requires a new temporary partition on the storage drive. The current 15.1 system on my iPad 6 is 6.92 GB, so you need at least 7 GB free to build a new image. Once the image is built, it is copied into the boot partition and deleted.

  • Seems a little more ‘fluid’ on my iPhone..

    That may well be.

But I just don't like the people who did ring on my door bell, came in, installed microphones and cameras everywhere and then confirmed me that "this is only in-case something happens" and generally "to protect children".

But my stance to such tools and methods seems to be rare, so don't mind to ignore me 🤗

It's too late already then. The tech for this feature is the same thing that's used for all the image categorization they do. The tech for the Photos/iCloud stuff is different and doesn't seem to be installed at this point. On the other hand, if your concern is that abusive governments may use this for forcing Apple to add a form of backdoor, it's already too late to stop that now as well. Apple announcing their plans for the feature informed any govt. that wants this form of backdoor there that it's possible for Apple to do it.

This update makes it a lot easier to make music. I feel like things are snappier and my creative block is no longer present.

Drambo+Loopy Pro feels great as ever!

    I don't like this world anymore, @NeonSilicon

iOS hasn't ever really had enough user control over it to treat it as a secured device. You kinda need to treat your iOS or Android phone as if you are using Facebook messenger.

  • Where did you find that information on the midi problem, @MisplacedDevelopment?

It was mentioned in the thread here, though no specifics on what the actual bug was: https://www.multitrackstudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&p=10962&sid=16edeb4b8cad90fa3b53eb5f02c274d1#p10962

Can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not? 🤔
If not, would love to know what the improvements are?

How annoyed is everyone by the three dots multitasking icon? can apps hide it or is it always there now?

How annoyed are you by the quick note gesture?

It's these little things keeping me from updating to 15 lol

Multi: a bit, no way to hide it so you kind of get used to it but it can be annoying every now and then.
Note: not at all, I forget it’s there until I need it and I’m reminded that it’s a sweet little feature

The dots I accidentally hit it every so often but I think overall I am happy to have it there. It has revealed a couple of apps that I didn’t know supported multitasking which I may not have found otherwise and if it encourages devs to start supporting it in their apps then that’s a good thing in my opinion.

  • @0tolerance4silence said:
I can’t stand them. Btw they are only visible in an app that supports multitasking, but if an app supports it, they can’t be hidden. I touch them accidentally most of the time when using Drambo / transport... super annoying.

Once the D update drops it will be less of an issue B)

The quick note gesture can be disabled in 15.2. New Settings–>General–>Gestures.

Actually, if you use multitasking, the three dots is a lot easier to use than the previous combo of drags and swipes. Now it's just tap, tap, tap.

  • I like the new three dots thing myself, it's sooooo much easier to use than before. Same with Quick Notes, I use that all the time now. :)

  • M1 updated fine on the first try.

The 10.5 Pro keeps failing to install though which is frustrating as it has over 100gig free.

  • @0tolerance4silence said:

I’m saying this using the latest beta... it’s annoying... in the AppStore version it’s almost impossible to use those transport buttons nearby

Ok, I've already learned to live with the 3 dots as they make general multi-tasking a lot smoother.

When my iPad is tilted on the desk I automatically tap the lower half of the loop & 3-dot icons and the others.
    (in the non-beta it's a real pita).

I tend to prefer apps that always show the Time, Battery, Wifi etc. this way it's easier to keep track of time and charge B)
