Apple MIDI over Bluetooth (and Apollo too....)

A little bit of debug help would be much appreciated, folks! I'm trying to track a (possible) bug in Apollo MIDI over Bluetooth, when connecting an iOS 8.1.2 device to Yosemite 10.10.1. Things had been working fine with earlier versions of iOS 8 and Yosemite, but now the connections are not going through.

To add a wrinkle:
Apple rolled out their MIDI over Bluetooth with Yosemite and iOS 8, and I had been playing around with it.... But it seems to have stopped working (I believe with iOS 8.1.2 -- it had been OK with 8.1 -- I think. Or perhaps it's a Yosemite issue; I'm running 10.10.1, but one of the service updates may have done something.)

So -- anyone out there have Apple's MOB working with 8.1.2 and Yosemite 10.10.1? Or Apollo, with a similar configuration?

I've had no trouble with Apollo going between devices (mix of iOS 8 and iOS 7, all seem fine), or to Mavericks. My suspicion is that a weirdness on Yosemite is at the root of it (and hence, the bug fix is in Apple's court), but if not, then I've got some work to do.

If Apple's MOB, and Apollo, are both not connecting -- then there's something weird with Apple. If Apple's MOB works, and Apollo doesn't, then it's definitely my issue. Any input would be much appreciated (and if you need a copy of Apollo to help me out with the testing, I can make that happen! ;-).

    I am running iOS 8.1.2 on an iPad Air 2, and Yosemite 10.10.1 on a MBPro.

    I have been able to successfully get MIDI over Bluetooth working between various apps on the iPad that output Network MIDI or MIDI over Bluetooth, sending to Logic Pro X.

    I'm not sure that all of these steps are needed, but here's what I'm doing:

    • iPad: WiFi off, Bluetooth On.
    • MBP: Bluetooth On.
    • Pair iPad with MBP. Settings|Bluetooth shows 'Connected'.
    • Logic: Add software instrument
    • Audio MIDI Setup|MIDI Studio|Network: Select iPad, Connect
    • iPad: Open app sending MIDI over Bluetooth (ChordPolyPad)
    • ChordPolyPad MIDI Out: Network Session 1

    ChordPolyPad is now sending MIDI to Logic.

    Thanks @GRiker -- good to know. A dozen reboots later, and I've gotten Apple's MIDI over Bluetooth to connect. Still trying to figure out what's up with Apollo. Totally unclear what fixed Apple's stuff (and not sure if the fix will last, or if it'll go off into the weeds again.
