Video recording of iOS
I just discovered this and thought I would share another way of recording video from your iPad...
http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/easy_mac_hacks_record_your_ios_device_screen_quicktime_player
On a similar vein, I want to find a good way to create some videos, so I thought others here might be able to advise.
Objective - recording video screenshots of the iPad with iPad audio plus voiceover then adding finger taps in video editor.
Video tools - Refector, iMovie, Cutecut, Quicktime
Audio tools - iConnectivityMidi2, various other audio interfaces, AudioBus, MiMix, XLR or USB mics

Unfortunately reflector doesn't work with auria, I tried to do some auria videos that way but it shuts off the audio then crashes. Unless an update somewhere along the line fixed that. I haven't tried in a while.
Would love to hear anyone's killer (read simple) set-up for this...
Odd that Auria wouldn't work. I haven't tried it, but anything else I've thrown at it has. I wonder if the Quicktime approach would work there.
I forgot to add that I could just go the video camera route, but I'd really prefer screen capture, so my hands are out of the way, and the resolution and focus aren't an issue. The problem with that though is adding the voiceover, which shouldn't be that difficult, and adding objects to signify where I'm tapping on the screen. The latter is what is mostly stumping me.
For voiceover, I just plan to add another chain into AB, with one chain being the app, and the other being a mic, so it would be realtime voiceover. I'm thinking Mimix in the O/P to aggregate the audio.
@funjunkie27 Forgive my ignorance, but into what app would you actually be recording the voiceover?
I'm thinking AB with mic input going into MiMix. I think the problem with this approach though is that I will lose all audio into Reflector, if I have a USB mic plugged in. I'm gonna start testing a few configs shortly, and I'll report back with what seems to work. I did find that the Mac app CuteCut (also available for iOS) is pretty easy to add graphic objects, additional video, and audio, so that's probably where everything will end up for the final assembly.
@funjunkie27 look forward to the results of your experiments Dr. Junkie. Interesting on CuteCut. Haven't heard of it, but as you note using iMovie, I'm presuming Cutecute brings something different/additional to the (video) table. Will check it out.
I found it far easier to add voiceover, additional video, and graphics using CuteCut than within iMovie.
I just tried using Reflector and Quicktime, and the problem with both is the lag between the audio and what I'm hearing in my headset. The app audio doesn't pose much of a problem, but hearing my voice with a half sec delay is too distracting to use. Back to the drawing board!
@funjunkie Many people doing voiceovers don't use headsets. You might try that.
Thanks @Clam, but what is the alternative? I want to be able to capture the o/p of an app while adding some narration.
Right, I get what you're doing now. My bad!
No worries. I'm at a point where I don't see this as feasible. Trying to capture video and audio wirelessly seems to be fraught with too many issues. Fortunately I was able to use the word "fraught", which I was afraid would escape me, but unfortunately, that doesn't solve my problem. The problem being that none of the solutions work, especially once you factor in the audio latency.
@funkunkie27 Fraught is a fine word, but if you figure out how to bypass it, do let us know...
@funjunkie27 Thanks for sharing that hack! Regarding capturing video with finger taps, have you considered messaging Tim at discchord.com? Seems to me he does something very similar to what you describe in his "Let's Play" vids.
There is only one reliable way and that's to jailbreak your iPad and use a screen capture app

Yosemite and ios8 only. Damn, I've only got the first bit.
Thanks for the tips @eustressor and Doug.
@supadom - the QT solution worked great except for the voiceover lag. I'm thinking I could record my voice in another iOS device, export that to my Mac and then sync it to the video.
I've recently come to the conclusion that the most helpful vids of iPads are the ones where the whole experience is captured, ie, hands, fingers, styluses etc. The only requirement is that screen reflection needs to be minimized.
This after watching a Rebirth tutorial where I was constantly losing the plot because I didn't know what buttons were being pressed!
Trouble with that is that my hands often get in the way. A stylus helps a bit, but I haven't found a stylus that works well enough. If I just do screen capture, I plan on overlaying an arrow to point out what I'm pressing, when it isn't obvious.
