  • I’m really looking forward to this synth on my iPad. Have the desktop version and it sounds great. Completely exceeded my initial idea of the thing. I like it so much that I’m thinking of tracking down the hardware. It sounds killer.

I too am a huge fan of the BA-1 and as a former CS01 owner can say that the BA-1 is several levels beyond the capability of the charmingly basic OG hardware.

    iOS is getting closer

I know reception has been lukewarm here (seems better on desktop) but the demos sound great and I’ve been really wanting a CS clone on iOS. I’ll be getting it unless the price is outrageous.

+1 but my guess is that the iPad version will be in the $29.99 region…

That’s exactly what I’m afraid of. At that price I’ll have to do more research and I’ll be a bit more hesitant but I wouldn’t rule it out completely as I think they make real quality plugins. Crystalline is a masterpiece as far as I’m concerned.

Facts! Crystalline is a masterpiece. Pitch Drift is a core essential tool for me. :)

I’ll admit I’ve been throwing pitch drift on more and more things lately 😂 it’s great for that little ✨ on a synth part.

I regret I waited so long to get Crystalline as it’s one of my favorite verbs now. I don’t see it get mentioned here much but I love Timeverb from GSI too.

Yeah Logic's reverbs have nothing on Crystalline and FAC Alteza. My ambient pieces wouldn't be the same without them.

Oh 100%. Logic’s reverbs are great for just adding a bit of reverb to something, but Crystalline, Alteza, EOS, MagicVerb, and Timeverb/Springs are usable as instruments in their own right, imo.

    Thank you.
These comments are helpful to me.
Now I gotta wait to see the price.
    I hope it ain’t $30.

  • I wanted to love it, I enjoy Baby Audio plugins. I tried it last night.

I have never played an original CS01, but the BA-1 is just too limited for me, and I do like simple apps. I think it makes interesting digital bass sounds, and some nice sparkly pad sounds, but nothing I can't create with what I already have. As is usual with BA, I like the UI very much. I'll skip this one, but it's a near miss.

  • The more I keep thinking about it, the more I believe BA-1 will be an invaluable synth in my toolbelt. I admit I was mistaken with my first impressions of it. I don't know, I'd love to have a go with it once Baby Audio releases it to iPad.

  • I really like these kind of sounds. With Baby Audio the kicker tends to be the interface - text is always tiny. If it is likely to fail anywhere it will be in that area moreso than sound.

+1 and that's one of the reasons I don't use Crystalline as often as I wish I could do...
...it just hurts my eyes too much.

At least BA-1 doesn't seem to have dual controls without clear affordances (damping, gate)

Given the addiction levels many have for app purchases, it's probably a good thing we can't use Pay in 3, no? 😂

I don’t even wanna think about it. I’d have so many payment plans going at once 😂 wonder if apple will ever make their own pay as you go plan work for the App Store 🤔

Do Baby Audio generally release their stuff for iPhone as well as ipad? That would be incredibly hard to read, even if not to use, on a phone

As far as I can tell all their plugins to date have been universal. :) But, aside from Garageband and FLSM, I rarely ever bother with iPhone for serious music production. Hence why I got a Mini 6. I do my serious work on my 12.9" M1 Pro, but my Mini 6 is my portable music studio. :)

  • Yeah, I feel like you'd have to be a bit of a masochist to use iPhone for music-making tbh! There are maybe a few apps with UIs suitable for that, but the majority, I think not, and doing that kind of close work on a small screen is really begging for eye problems I reckon

Facts mate! Just asking for trouble when using such a small screen. It's funny how badly I wanted to buy an iPhone 14 Pro for creating ideas earlier this year. Instead, I recently got myself that aforementioned Mini 6. That'll be as small as I go.

Yeah I’m starting to think about deleting the music apps on my phone save for GarageBand, and just using that as a place to get a beat started when I have a few minutes to kill and I’m away from my iPad. My old eyes can’t take the vast majority of music apps on that tiny screen.

  • Yeah, and if your eyes aren't old already, doing much music making on a phone seems like a surefire way to make them old sooner rather than later

According to my statistics very few people actually use phones for music (at least in terms of download numbers). Especially noteworthy considering there are so much more iphones out there than ipads. But the vast majority of downloads is coming from iPads. B)

Yes, not surprising, and makes me understand why many devs decide not to bother offering universal apps - seems it makes more sense to focus on the ipad instead of always needing to make the compromises that would be needed to give an ok experience on a tiny screen!

Yeah, the only music apps I find user friendly on the phone are Nanostudio 2, Drambo (with internal modules) and GR-16. Stuff is usually too cramped.

Bingo, the only few apps I find reasonably 'comfortable' to use on my iPhone 8 are Koala Sampler & GarageBand...
...which also reminded me, I've not done any 'app cleanup' on the iPhone 8 in ages...

I spent a few years iphone only, but eventually knew I needed more real estate and power. I like to look at the App Store paid top 200 iPad and iPhone, and they are usually way different then one might expect.
