Apple wireless Magic keyboard not working with iPad
I am trying to set up and use my Apple wireless Magic keyboard that I normally use with my Mac mini with my iPad Peo 11 and it's not working. I have connected it via Bluetooth and it says "connected ", but when I try to use it, nothing happens. I have also tried it via USB and the same. I have updated the iOS to the latest, restarted it, and still nothing. Does anyone maybe know what I can try doing? Thanks in advance:)

It's not still connected to the Mac is it? The Mac may take control even though the iPad says "Connected".
No, I had it forget that Mac. I even shut it down. It's strange because the Bluetooth says connected, but when I try to type, nothing works.
I believe you need to be in a place where keyboard is required. For example, open a Note, position the cursor, then type. The screen keyboard will not appear, because the external keyboard is connected. The first character will be missed, because the keyboard is sleeping, then it works normally. That's how it has always worked for me.
Yes, I have tried searching websites in Chrome, and typing in Drambo to save and nothing happens. I have tried both my wireless Magic keyboard and a USB keyboard and nothing.. I don't get it, I have disconnected my monitor and made a simple setup and still nothing.
Have you tried it in the Notes app? That would be the simplest scenario.
Edit: When the keyboard is connected, you should see the settings for Hardware Keyboard in the keyboard Settings. If it does not appear, your keyboard has not been properly recognized.
I have tried Notes and nothing happens. In the "hardware keyboard" section I do not see any keyboard showing up. Quite weird.
I believe you only see Hardware Keyboard when it is connected. The actual keyboard is not identified in those settings. So it looks like the system is happy with the keyboard, but somehow doesn't use it.
I assume that the screen keyboard does not appear when the hadrware KB is connected. That again implies that input is expected. Have you tried tapping on the keyboard icon in the lower right, and using the screen keyboard, when the hardware KB is connected but not working.
Do you have any sort of non-standard extension that might interfere with text input?
It shows hardware keyboard even when it's disconnected. Also, the native keyboard works but only when I choose it in the lower panel. This is definitely a mystery. Thanks again for your efforts;) I'm just trying to set it up, but of course I can live fine without.
Is there an Apple Store near you? You might consider bringing it and your iPad in.
I don't believe the Hardware Keyboard settings should be visible when a keyboard is not connected. It vanishes for me as soon as the keyboard is turned off. Do you have another device connected that may appear to be a keyboard? Could you disconnect all USB gear, and post a screenshot of the Bluetooth Settings? That would confirm that there's no rogue device in play.
I think I found the problem. For some reason when my USB sound interface is connected, it's showing as a hardware keyboard.. Why? I don't know. At least we are getting somewhere..THX!!
So I now have the keyboard actually working but when I press on the Magic Keyboard keys, they go really slowly and not normal. I also have my normal native keyboard option. I’m using it now

Interesting. Does the audio interface have some sort of "HID" capability, possibly related to MIDI? Could you identify the make/model?
I don't have a clue on the slow KB input at the moment. Are there a lot of other Bluetooth signals close by?
I have a Behringer UMC204HD. It is quite good and I don't remember having such an issue the last time, last year when I had tried this setup. I notice though with my USB hub that even my wireless mouse made the hardware keyboard display too. I have to push and hold for about 5 seconds for it to try to type. I have tried it with my iPhone and the keyboard works fine, so it's something with my iPad.
It's one year just after the warranty too.. I wonder if it's some conflict or setting?? Attached is a zipped short video showing the problem. Maybe I'm thinking to do a reset of the iPad.
I tried the Bluetooth with my Iconnectivity speakers and it works fine..I'm stumped.
Mystery is solved. There is a tab called "slow keys" under accessibility which was enabled and it was the culprit. I turned this off and now all is normal. Thanks and maybe if this happens to anyone else, you will know what to do:)
