  • @Cambler, latest update (1.03) has a faster workflow for comparing drum pads. If you're in a drum track:

    1) press the link circle in the top right hand corner, to the right of the [4x4] keypad matrix.

The keypad will change and at the bottom right hand corner you'll now see an 'eye' icon.

    2) Press the eye icon to enable quick [PEEK] select.

    3) press a pad to set it as the peek target.

    4) press SEQ or the main keypad note button to go back your drum pads.

Hey @Jumpercollins, thanks for posting the photos. I've got a few questions and an ask that will help me narrow this down.

    1) Any chance 1.02 was an update from the beta, or any mix of beta stuff going on (you had beta right?). I ask because this was exactly something that happened between some of the final beta versions and the live.

    2) If not, and either way, would you mind exporting the AUM project and sharing it with me. I should be able to open up your Prism session and poke around for answers. You can send it to [email protected]

    3) I posted 1.03 for apple to approve last night. Should be up soon. Before installing could you do a little test on your end to confirm if the save behavior worked as expected.

Saving sessions from AUM should be rock solid, it's the only way I've been saving. We'll definitely get to the bottom of this.

@A_Mortal_Mage I was wondering if it was a beta problem but I’m pretty sure I went over to the store version before starting the project as flipped over on day of release. See below , however that may of what caused it. Currently I’m on 1.02 with the update 1.03 sat there. However the beta retired version does still say open.

I emailed you the session file from AUM not much in it as lost my trig steps. The 3rd instrument I was just starting on before this happened so didn’t have any midi data to send.

I haven't read all your posts about this in forensic detail, but is it possible that somehow you saved something in the beta version but then opened up the store version (the store version did not replace the old beta, so you likely have both on your iPad). This would explain why you got the welcome screen when you last opened the app - you were actually opening the new one for the first time?

  • @A_Mortal_Mage Just recreated a simular session using the 1.02 version saved the session in AUM then closed the session.

Then in AUM reopened the project using the option “Last State” and state saving in AUM is working and Prism retains its midi settings.

Now I just gone ahead and updated Prism to 1.03 and reopened AUM using the option “Last State” and I think this is the problem Prism reverts to a different state.

If I close everything again and open the project using files option top right in AUM it’s state saved and opens properly.

@Gavinski, sharp guess. That's what I was thinking too

hohoho that's kind of tricky. To make sure I understand, can you clarify a different state.
    Like,
    a) everything is the same but the trigs are screwed up like before
    b) A different version of Prism is opened. I.e not release version 1.03 but beta 3.23 or something.
    c) A project different than the project you were working on before opens in Prism

Also, if you don't update does the "Last State" option work as expected for Prism?

It appears to revert to a snapshot view. 2 things happened it stopped playing sound and trigs dropped out.

@Jumpercollins Looking at the file you sent and there are some hints that cross interference between beta and live versions could be causing this. Specifically, the beta version you're on. The prism_retired environment is running old broken stuff at this point. I'd recommend removing it. If you'd like to continue beta testing I can add you to the new environment. I think that will sort this out.

You're a star - I'll try this tonight when I'm reunited with my iPad. Thanks so much man!

Wasn’t aware you could have beta and store apps with the same name on a device at the same time. Thought if you downloaded the store version it would write over the beta. Time for a clean slate our delete everything and just keep the store version. Cheers for the help. @A_Mortal_Mage

  • Hey Y'all,

The new user orientation documentation has come a long way. There's now a detailed guide walking through your first pattern including:

    1) GUI Layout
    2) Drum Tracks
    3) Tone Tracks
    4) Arps
    5) Fuse , [ECHO] & [MELT]
    6) Patterns & Scenes

It won't show you everything but it should leave you feeling confident enough to start playing. As always, would love your feedback.

    Getting Started Guide

  • @A_Mortal_Mage The new updated guide is perfect! Great examples to take it at your own pace.. I understand a heck of a lot more about Prism now, than I did before going through the new guide.. many thanks..

  • thanks mr mage

  • A very welcome userguide, thanks dev !

  • Love the extended “Getting Started” guide. I kept thinking “so that’s how I did it”.
It’s like Columbus finding America and then realizing he’d had a map in his pocket the whole time.

  • Anybody have a video showing the new Launchpad integration?

The developer put a video up on YouTube .. might still be a beta feature right now, though .. not sure . Here’s the link :

  • Looking forward to getting into this with my LPMK3..

I finally started making some music with this sequencer last night.

I don’t know anything about Elektron boxes (which I’ve read this app kind of acts like or emulates). But I’m totally digging how different is is! Especially from what we’re used to on the iOS/ipadOS platform.

  • It seems be be updated with the latest version.

    Such a great feature!

Nice. It just keeps on getting better.

  • Is launchpad x supported?

Thanks for covering me @mikejohn. @ahallam I'll add some more post-beta videos eventually, but most of it is the same. Also, check out the below site for more detailed docs on the launchpad control.

That's awesome to hear @Edward_Alexander! I know you've been fighting to wrap your head around Prism. Was there a eureka moment for you where things started to click? I'd love to figure out how to share your learnings with other new users.

Leo’s @sfm SoundForMore started doing a set of tutorials as I’m sure you know. He’s always had a way of explaining things straight and to the point, to where I can understand. He’s a great teacher and an expert at creating easy to follow tutorials. I’d recommend anyone struggling to check them out.

I think one of the big “eureka moments” for me was realizing the touch, hold, then drag up and down to change values on things.

The picking things from the right hand side, then placing them on the sequencer side on the left seems familiar, but I know there’s more to it. I’m still learning and having a lot of fun trying things along the way. I can see a lot of potential in this amazing app you’ve created here. Thanks!

Edit: btw, I’m just now seeing your online manual!

Just wanted to give a bump and thank you to the dev. Having an utter blast with this sequencer.

My only request as of now is a toggle or ability to prevent bars from auto growing when recording, sometimes i just want to focus on the first bar or two on repeat without having any notes in the sequence. Happy to have just missed finding it!

  • edited June 2024

@Edward_Alexander thanks for sharing, this is great stuff. Haha so I'm hearing I can make the manual and orientation stuff more obvious. Now that you've found it is it helpful?

Speaking of which. There's still lots more documentation being worked on and the first of the PDF stuff is ready.

    https://sites.google.com/view/prism-midi-sequencer/pdf-manuals

A HUGE SHOUTOUT to @daveOcymru for helping me put all of it together. There's no way I could have gotten it to where it is without their help. Can't possibly express enough gratitude

Thanks @Goldiblockz Funny that you mention it. I was wrapping up recording documentation last night and thought it was missing. I'll post an update that let's you toggle autogrow this evening. In the meantime though, recording will only grow a sequence if it is empty and set to one bar. So as it stands, you can lock in any length other than one bar.

  • Does anyone have examples of making some tracks with this? I watched the tutorials and was more than mildly befuddled. Some actual music making examples would have helped my apparently slow cognitive abilities.

You’re not the only one, I’m still trying to work it all out lol

Just to add, it’s me being dim most likely, not the app. I sometimes think I’m trying to learn too many apps at once lol

  • I’m a little jealous of the learning curve. And it appears I’m not the only one who is having issues, I’m not. I can’t even get prism to connect to my iPhone using AB3 it’s frustrating. Prism is in midi section and GB isn’t this a first for me. FLSM is in both sections but immediately goes to sleep and does all sorts of stuff I never witnessed before, I try using Bluetooth midi’s and other apps and they all crash or freeze. I have never had such a tough go at it never I have. It’s shaping up to be a contender for best of 2024. I’m just getting in groove box apps is Prism a groove box sort of ish?
