Flute-n-Drone: The Meditation Series: Session 3, Psalms‬ ‭33‬:‭13‬-‭22‬

Mixed in Cubasis 3 with WaveCloud, ShimmerVerb, Aries, Pro-C, Pro-L, Brusfri

I like how the drone track on this turned out with just a single instance of WaveCloud sending to ShimmerVerb. WaveCloud was loaded with a flute sample and fed MIDI notes to get it pitched down a couple of octaves, including the twinkly bits from my son's shaker toy. The flute track also fed ShimmerVerb and the new Aries app for just a bit of bite.

Nice one. Love that flute. Meister Eckhart comes to mind when I think about the intersection between Christianity and meditation.

Thanks. For me,it's not a "mystic" or "transcendental" practice but more of a focused contemplation of Biblical passages and principles.

  • Nice track. With all the processing it still sounds very organic and real. Thanks for posting.

  • I love the music and the message.

  • Enjoyed the music a lot, lovely tone to the flute 🪈

  • Very nice track. I just can’t figure a god that wants you to fear his unfailing love. I’ll have to meditate on that, I guess. Maybe it’s zen.

  • Lovely flute melody. There can't be many people who aren't moved by a drone and a flute, its part of our musical DNA from the first humans. The psalm was well-chosen too. I'm not religious but admire the Psalms as they express hopes and fears that are just as relevant today as they were when they were written. The 'god fearing' determination to lead a virtuous life feels connected with these more primal undertones when we listened to the world rather than demand it listen to us.

"fear" is a tough translation. Usually it carries a meaning of "reverence" and "awe" rather than "sheer terror" - although He will be the ultimate Judge so in that sense actual fear can be a motivator for good as well.

    @belldu thanks

  • With respect, that’s the problem. These narratives are man made. The attempts of men to keep people in line for one reason or another. Now we have laws and a judicial system to keep us in line
(at least most of us). I grew up with the Old Testament god. An angry, vengeful creation. Shock and awe over and over again in the Bible. And, of course, Do NOT unto your neighbors as you would NOT have them do unto you

At least the New Testamant promotes love… Do unto your neighbors as you would have them do unto you. It’s kinder, gentler, more personal. Jesus is in your heart not on a stark mountain top.

Still, these narratives have been twisted to men’s purposes from the very beginning. Have they done more harm than good? Often. Today we have organized societies to achieve the same results, namely to keep people’s violent and greedy tendencies in check. Unfortunately, the results are about the same over the centuries.

I don’t think we’ll ever become unified in peace and love. Sapiens are a murderous and cruel recipe with an ounce of love. Amazingly that ounce and the desire for self preservation has kept us in existence, unlike the many other homo variations that couldn’t stand up to our aggressive nature.
Our supremacy on earth is based on our ability to outwit and dominate everybody else.

Buddha was not a godhead, but he understood human suffering. His eightfold path shows a way out without heaven, hell, judgement, original sin or threats. It’s a spiritual way, embracing all the good found in Western religions. A compassionate, nonviolent, way to live in potential harmony, created by a person for all people. Unfortunately, it takes a ton of inner work. You have to recreate it inside yourself. Discover it for yourself. And, also unfortunately, it has been used by those in power to dominate others.

I think Christianity requires this inner journey, also, and has created people like Thomas Merton and millions of others. Sadly, too many follow it like an unquestioned rule book without doing the inner work. And that need for a mighty leader, who knows all, is invincible, tells you exactly what to do, snd is the only one who can save you… well, that’s the same definition as a cult leader.

I, in no way, believe this rant applies to you, personally, Jim. Religion is an anachronistic and flawed system. Many make good, helpful snd compassionate use of it. But many more do just the opposite and we live with the consequences of that.
