Oh yeah…listening already. Great start! I feel like I’m in the club listening to you. Very intimate.
Funny story, (not for the other club goers.)
When I had turned 21 back in the mid 90s, i hopped on a train from trenton to N.Y. cause i wanted to spend my 21st B-Day listening at the Blue Note. The couple years leading up to that, i was listening to a lot of early live jazz recordings, so naturally, whenever a soloist did something that resonated with me, i’d yell out a quick and emphatic, YEAH. The second time i did that what felt to me was that a dozen people must have turned around to give me dirty glares. I thought to myself, what a bunch of boring and up-tight and pompous sons of bitches. I also remember feeling pissed that two drinks in and i only had enough money left for the subway and train back home, ha ha ha.
Did you have other players sit in with you on some of these tracks? I’m 6 tracks in and loving this, Michael.
I just got a notice from Bandcamp about this and I was glad to see you're still producing; wondered where you've been.
He's back, and he's better than ever! Only had a chance to skim the album atm, will give a full listen tomorrow.
Mike, how's it going mate?! Catch me up.
Yes!
I like Toothpaste.
Very happy to see you posting btw!
I knew you'd be back.🤪 No, I didn't (I thought you would though), but I'ts good that you are.😊
Thanks so much @Blipsford_Baubie. Those are very kind words. And, no, no sidemen.
Thank you and hi @MrStochastic @jwmmakerofmusic @Edward_Alexander @Pxlhg.
I’m not really back, though I lurk around and dm folks.
Frankly, it’s good, for me, to get out of the daily loop here. I still love you guys and will post an album every month or so if I’m still putting out. I have no problem with the forum (other than, for me, it’s a bit dull). It’s more this rather solitary mode I now find myself in.
But, I’m glad for the connection and please dm me if you want some details. All’s good for me. It’s a happy time, actually. I hope so for all of you, too.
This album shows me how complete your improvisational approach is for finished work.
With the exception of the occasional drum track slipping into the mix it’s all coming from two hands. I like to focus attention n the bass hand and then see how independent your hands are.
You generally have walking bass lines that fit very well as the soloists supporting bass player and with keyboard splits you can make that hand come through as a genuine upright bass so the piano, bass and drums sonic landscape is complete.
I’m always amazed at how little you repeat yourself across hundreds of recordings. I suspect that is one of your main goals… seek something new and follow the muse into the darkness with your lamp burning bright.
Speaking of someone lurking, I haven't seen you on here much lately either. (I should talk, I guess).
I used to find more threads I wanted to use for conversation and a sense of community. Trust me, I look at the forum but don’t see a lot I care to comment on. I could pull a thread off into a side bar and often was scolded for what I think is the quality of the forum as a database. Well, databases are so 2010’s and now they a just fodder for the AI model that can repurpose the word sequences into sentences created in response to prompts.
I also seem to have hit a creative wall on making music. A shift from long hospital days to 24/7 home caretaking is probably why.
Oh hey, you're back. Kinda. Good, good. Keep the inspiration going.
Hi Mike. I haven't had a chance to listen on headphones yet. Business has really picked up and I usually just hit the couch when I get home. I'll check it out this weekend. Enjoy the solitude! Peace, bro.
Very sorry to hear this. Hope you'll have some creative time again.
Thanks @McD for the thoughtful and kind words. It means a lot to me. I hope more creativity lies ahead for you. I think it does.
Regards @Paulieworld @garden @MrStochastic. Hope all is good.
Another great album!
Thank you, @MrStochastic. Appreciated.
I hope you make album #100 a “Greatest Hits” or “That’s What I Call Linearlineman” with an option for vinyl, cassete tape, CD or LaserDisc options with cover art by an AI Salvador Dali or Peter Max.
Wait did Mike come back !???
Hit him up with a DM.
My favorites are Pulsation and Neverland. I love a nice piano/bass duet. I just wish I could be sitting outside listening with my morning coffee. Maybe next week. It’s supposed to be in the 60s, maybe 70. I would really love to hear a piano/bass improv on St. Louis Blues. As I recall, that one has a special place for both of us. I can tell from your music, that you’re doing just fine. May the road rise to meet you!
Hi @yellow_eyez I’ll post new albums as they come along. For the few who are interested. Hope all is good.
We’ll see @McD. If I get to 100 I’ll press it on gold and shoot it into space. Title: Man Woman Life Death Infinity. Do you remember Ben Casey and Vince Edwards’ hirsuteness?
Thx @Paulieworld i hope you’re sipping al fresco soon!
I had forgotten about that “Ben Casey” show opening video narrated by Sam Jafee:
Nice work Mike, I’m sure you’ve got enough (great) material already to get to that magic 💯 🙏
Thanks, Tony. lol, Fortunately, I like listening to a lot of my own stuff.
