Sick - if it uses pencil 2.0 and the iPad m1/2 Magic Keyboard case Ill bite if trade in good
Wow.. must have some type of ESP.. just mentioned getting the Air 13… and look..
Nice..
"With a powerful CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine, it’s nearly 2x faster than iPad Air with M1 chip."
I'm really looking forward to see any AUv3 M1-M3 comparison in AUM/Loopy Pro.
It still has Touch-ID, I am happy.
That means I don't need to hunt down a new Air 6 13-inch and can wait with the purchase.
Virtually no difference beside the CPU and some raytracing:

Interesting. I'd seen speculation that the new Air would launch with M4 and skip M3 because of some issues... but I can't remember what these issues were
New base iPad seems pretty legit. Think I'll try to talk my one friend who's stuck using iPhone to get the 512gb version of the base iPad since he doesn't do visual art. 😂
I bet it’ll yield what I guessed last time
(M1 rules)
And btw it doesn’t use pencil 2 or Magic Keyboard 1 so I’m out
(Rather wait for the iPad m7 or m9)
I'm still haven't scratched the limit of my 2020 iPad Pro 12.9". I wonder if the new M3 air 13" is an upgrade.
Sure the computing power is higher but the screen and speaker of Pro are still better I guess. But honestly if I have to buy a new iPad it will be most likely an Air.
They really are trying to artificially make the gap to the Pros wide, eh? Not much to get excited about with this upgrade.
+1
Couldn’t be happier with my Air 5 with its M1 and 8 gigs of RAM, it handles everything I throw at it.

I have an iPad Pro M1. I don’t think I’ve ever used Apple Intelligence.
Comparing Macbook Pros with the base M2 and M3 chips, the M3 provides ~18% performance uplift (single core). Its nice to see the Air will get a similar uplift vs the M2 at the same cost, even with tariff weirdness.
If you are running projects with many oversampled FX & voices, this might be a great option. Especially if you want to keep your buffer (latency) low.
Before this release, I would have recommended the M4 iPad Pro for power users if it was in budget (I bought one myself), but now I don't think I'd recommend the M4 iPad Pro to anyone on this forum unless you really have money to burn or need it for other niche uses. Or maybe if your DAW takes good advantage of multi-core (none of the ones I use do).
The M3 to M4 Macbook Pro provided a 21% uplift. But is 21% worth ~$400 dollars when choosing the M3 iPad Air vs M4 iPad Pro? Maaybe if you mostly use high-resolution sampled instruments and you want to spend $1600 for the 1TB/16GB Pro model, but I'm unconvinced that 8 vs 16 ram is limiting anyone doing iOS music production.
(The new base model iPad uplift is also really nice to see. If Apple someday starts putting laminated displays in the base iPads I'd maybe consider one).
is the A16 good enough to run any IOS music app? I'm so tempted.
Me too, has anyone tried it?
I’m wondering where the M-1 and M-2 Air prices are going to go? I’m also wondering at what point being so much faster than last year’s miraculous improvement is worth it?
I need advice as well - the current lineup is so confusing.
Is the base iPad with A16 strong enough for basic Procreate work?
Any insight would be helpful
Thanks
Take it for what it’s worth, but it’s not. Not yet. I think in about 4-5 years an upgrade might be needed but the m1/2 should be good for another 5 yrs minimum
Today I bought the M4 Air on an Amazon Sale thing. I hope it’s worth it. (I’ve been gradually going more “unplugged” versions on tracks to avoid crashes on my elderly Air4.
Nice! You will notice a significant leap going from the A14 processor to the M4. Adding to that the jump from 4 Gbg RAM to 8 will noticeably smooth the ride out.
Any M-processor is way more powerful than most apps can utilize but it is a lot of fun having a fast iPad! An M4 is future-proof for years ahead.
Have a blast!

12, not 8
That’s right mate, an even smoother ride!
😊
I can’t wait until they get rid of Touch ID.
Nobody talking about the substantial price increases announced.
What’s there really to be said? Prices on the materials have gone up, and it’s unreasonable to expect a small boutique company like Apple to keep the prices the same when their margins are so tight already. If they were able to buy components in bulk I’d get it but since they have to basically pay retail for each component, plus pay a living wage to all of the hardworking employees who carefully craft each device one by one, I get it.
It’s reasonable to think they need to squeak out a tiny profit so they can continue to discontinue support for perfectly good working older devices.
Hey just so everybody knows, my new M4 Air still hesitates a bit when playing or recording a project that has 10 or so tracks (some audio some midi) with chains of FabFilter apps on most of these tracks including Master track. I realize Fabs have lookahead and super duper processing, but it kinda bums me out that the lag is as noticeable today as it was in 2013 with Auria Pro…
Auria Pro is still functioning? I’m surprised. Have not seen it mentioned in some time.
I wonder if the lag you’re experiencing has something to do with Auria’s processing demands?
Do you have similar experiences with LP?
I do agree price need to go up but the pro price as almost doubled since I bought my M2. That’s is pretty significant increase in a short time.
Unfortunately my next iPad will not be a Pro. That’s more than I can pay.
I'm genuinely appalled by the new prices, and I think they'll be bad for our niche. My last iPad was a 2TB M1 Pro. I'd also have to think really damn hard about what iPad to get next, I can't really justify those current prices for high spec, large storage machines.
My M1 Pro iPad battery has started to go
after 4 years use. Saw that Apple were putting their prices up.
Picked up a new IPad M4 Air 11 inch 256GB to replace it paid £700 for that its now £849 on the Apple Store.
Prices getting silly cos of RAM
and memory shortages
Are they ever going to release a new mini? I’d GLADLY trade my 12.9” M2 iPad Pro for a modern mini, M-series or not. Since getting a MacBook Pro M5 Pro and a new iPhone 17 Pro Max I works trade desk space and portability for a compact form factor.
