TrackFX per Color

Hello everyone,

is there a way to apply the same instance of an AUv3 FX to all colors, but enable it per color using a button? I tried using the instance feature (the small “a” in the icon), but when I enable it, all colors are affected.

For example: I have a lowpass filter and 4 colors. I’d like to enable it on color 1 and 2, but not filter color 3 and 4.

Thanks!

I don't think so. When you add with the instance feature, every change you make in the app affects every other. Normally you would use a send for this, and just turn off the send when you don't want a color affected.

(btw. The instance feature is somewhat misleading. Using it you are actually adding separate instances. Their settings just update in unison across all the instances as though they were the same.)

  • Thanks Wim,

I tried the send option but it is really confusing.

Maybe I can MIDI Learn one CC to 3 different auv3 fxs and archive it this way?

Then I can switch on off per color (own instance a,b,c) and control all of them via fake global parameters.

If you like we can try to clear up anything confusing about using sends. That's a much more efficient approach both in terms of midi mapping and CPU usage. It's a standard way of doing things in most DAWs, so it's worth getting comfortable with it.

  • Of course, Wim,

    Here’s my issue with sends:

If I have a template with three AUv3 insert effects assigned to three colors — for example:

    • Distortion
    • Filter
    • Reverb

I can flexibly enable Distortion on Color 1 but not on Color 2 or 3.

To achieve this same flexibility using sends, I would need one send bus for every possible combination of the three AUv3 insert FX.

Then, if I want to control the filter cutoff for all colors using the filter, I would have to MIDI map the cutoff parameter in every send that contains an active filter.

Also, if I want to use a send bus like an insert effect, I have to lower the color’s fader. But then, how do I balance the volume of that color? The only option is to adjust the send amount, which also affects how the distortion sounds — making it even more complex.

All of this feels very confusing to me. Maybe I’m missing something.

However, with your help, I figured out that I can use three different AUv3 insert FX (a, b, c), and map their parameters to a single encoder.
It’s not CPU-friendly, but it seems like the easiest way to mimic the Track FX functionality.
