Koala + Loopy Pro recording

Hi folks! If I have Koala as an effect to record sounds into into it, is it possible to create a toggle or button in Loopy Pro to start recording into a next available pad in Koala? Or maybe something else that could achieve something similar? The idea being to not have to open Koala and having a faster workflow. Thanks!

As far as I know, koala only midi maps specific pads. You could set up a dial in loopy to advance through the pads, but it wouldn’t know whether a pad was empty.

  • Would I be able to, lets say, select a pad with a dial and have a toggle underneath that tells to record into the selected pad?

I don’t know koala well enough to remember the details of the midi commands it makes available. Loopy is very flexible in what you can set up. It is really a matter of what Koala allows.

  • Alright, thx @espiegel123 ! I can't seem to find anything about selecting a pad, so it might not be possible. I might just add a grid and toggle MIDI, I takes a bit more place but let's see if this works.

  • Okay, so I found in Koalas settings the options "MIDI can select pads" and "Midi can record pads". I'm halfways there! Is it possible with the dial to just select a note (C3 for example) without sending the midi message. Then having a toggle button underneath that sends the MIDI message of the note that has been selected via the dial?

  • @oscillotus : this wiki page describes a way to set up a dial where you select a step but it performs the action when receiving another message to trigger it:
