Sugar Bytes Dialekt Out on Desktop, Shortly to Be Released on iPad and iPhone!

Very happy and honored that Sugar Bytes asked me to do the official vid for their new groovebox app! This will come out on iOS, btw, should have been out on iOS today, there was a delay on that, unfortunately, but it's already out on desktop!

Here's my 2 hour walkthrough on their channel:

Here's a 2 minute overview on my channel!:

Amazing news! I thought Sugar Bytes didn’t do IOS any more. Perhaps there is hope for getting Nest and Obscurium on the iPad in the future after all?

I will look forward to watching the video this evening!

  • Before I dive into your walkthrough @Gavinski , how would you say Dialekt compares to the likes of GR-16, GR-II, Bam, Drambo, etc? :) Also gratz on being given the opportunity to do the full walkthrough, mate!

Exactly my question, now that GR2 is on sale...

Thank you! That 2 minute overview was perfect Gavin, I didn't even have to speed you up.

Now, jokes aside: another groovebox!? I still haven't learned to handle BAM for crying out loud. 🤣

I haven’t used any of those tbh, so can’t compare haha!

But will be curious to hear - I’m sure lots of people will have opinions on that - the free iOS version will be pretty full featured, there are only a few limitations like not being able to save work etc. So everyone will have a chance to check it out and compare the workflow themselves, for sure

  • Wow, Battalion will get some serious competition.

The desktop demo seems a bit limited to try this out with a splash screen over the top of the controls I know they want you to buy it but a time limited trial one would of been better than this !

This is maybe the most bizarre thing I've ever read on here! Do you just not like grooveboxes as a rule?

Haven’t got the time to watch your feature film length video at the moment @Gavinski but the obvious difference seems to be that Dialekt can’t host AUv3 instruments (correct?) like those others - you are limited to the built in instruments which is probably both a good and bad thing; limitations can often be more conducive to creative productivity.

That's right, this is not a host, it's a self contained thing, but it can be loaded as an AUv3 in AUM, it can load samples in the slicer track, and it works multi out too. Also sends midi out.

Too many apps, not enough time!

  • Just got conformation that it was only a small issue that stopped this getting approved on the appstore, iOS version might even drop today

Something was broken, update either is out already or will be ASAP

  • For what I see this is a very grooveboxy groovebox lol

can you instant preview your projects/songs?

How much will it be for iOS/iPadOS once released? (It's currently $99 on the desktop).
I'm not in a rush to buy any apps at the moment to be honest...

I don’t know the price Samu, you’ll find out soon I guess!

I assume that because this is on the Sugar Bytes YouTube channel, there was never going to be any comparison between different groovebox apps on iOS anyway! But I'll be interested to see if you've picked up on the expected conventions despite not owning the other apps. It's a very fun sector, and it's great to see Sugar Bytes enter it as their apps are usually quite idiosynchratic, so I'm looking forward to seeing what little unexpected quirks this one has.

Great to hear that this isn't the demo limitation.

At the first glance Dialekt makes really good impression on me. Probably this will be the first bigger app I buy after two years app-stinence.

Yeah - obviously after they asked me to do the walkthrough, I learned this back to front. There were definitely some things I had to get used to - I think any groovebox will have its quirks, right? Simple things like remembering to pick the right mode ‘step/pattern’ etc while editing things were easy for me to forget initially, haha, you just need to use it enough to get the flow. And as you say, Sugar Bytes apps tend to be quirky anyway. I also had a fair bit of input into how this turned out, though they didn’t go with all my ideas. Things like the Memory Page, though, were not there in early versions and were heavily based on some of my constructive criticism and suggestions.

Appstinence, haha. How is this the first time I am hearing that, great portmanteau!

  • I actually prefer Sugarbytes apps on iOS / iPad OS to their desktop formats the fonts and windows etc seem to scale better on a ipad . This new app looks like it follows the same lines so I’m sure it will be more popular on iOS.

    Oh ok that’s cool.

  • Fantastic news! So pleased they are still in the iOS game after their most recent plugins didn't make it across. Will defo be picking this up, even more definitely than I'll be picking up Battalion, if that's possible.

Not only does it look excellent, but anything to encourage SB to stay in the game!

  • DrumComputer was their lates release on iOS and that's +4 years or something. So definitely good in that context.

I bought GR2 today, again actually, and now I fucking regret it because this, I think, is a much better fit for me.
I wont return GR2 a second time so I guess I just have to put the saving pants on and wait. 🙃☹️

  • I swear, Dialekt seems like it'll be hella fun to mess with. The more I watch your walkthrough @Gavinski , the more I'm convinced Dialekt will possibly be a great fit on my iPhone for creating an EP. How soon I get it depends on the asking price. If $15 as an intro price, I'm diving in head-first. If $20 or more, I will unfortunately have to wait a little bit longer (Monday).
