The visual cues displayed by loops

... don't seem to be sufficiently visually distinct for a half witted duffer like me to immediately differentiate playing ones from not-playing ones. I suppose I could get more adept over time quickly and from the periphery of my vision delineating between the two states, but I'm wondering if this an issue for anyone apart from me…

  • It’s hard to imagine how it could be more visually distinct. Did you have any ideas?

Can you post a screenshot where the differences aren’t distinct?

I’ve noticed and raised this issue before. I completely agree, the two states are not as distinct in some situations as some would like to insist.

Here's a link to the thread i started which has examples in it.

I don't think anybody is insisting on anything. It comes down to individual perceptions.

I'm interested in ideas how it could be improved - because I can't come up with any myself. Maybe you can inspire some meaningful change with good ideas.

Maybe reducing the line thickness and intensity of the waveform display so that the background is more distinct? Of course then people might feel that empty and recorded loops aren't distinct enough from one another. 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • If one finds the states not distinguishable enough, one could add a button with the play clip action as an indicator.

Here ate a couple of possibilities.

  • this is a great idea, thanks

Well, the obvious idea which occurs to me is to make the space in the centre of the loop indicate playback status as well.

@espiegel123 suggests hooking up a button to indicate the playback status - the above idea would essentially do the same within the existing screen space. (Caveat: I’m still pretty new to Loopy Pro so I’m not sure whether that central space is already used for something that I’ve not remembered).
