[Funk/Jungle] I built this track around two small samples of LinearLineman.
Written with GR2 hosting Drambo.
Mixed in Logic Pro for iPad.
I added the drums and bass. The remaining instruments comprise two samples of Michael Levy’s, “Evangelist” (forum member LinearLineman). Instances of the samples are both clean and processed.
I began this inside Drambo standalone on my phone. The hook came about immediately, but struggled to build around it, so i abandoned the project after a couple weeks. Once GR2 came out, i revisited and finishing this has been a pleasant experience.
Below is a link to Michael Levy’s (Linear Lineman) song which inspired me to make, Slang Vine.

@sevenape , something for you awaits in the middle, if you can make it that far.😆

Cool vibes!
It sounds like you are a remix master… really solid composition made from found audio, I’m guessing.
Enjoyed this very much. I’ve been dabbling in this approach recently. Always something new and exciting seems to happen. If there are no takers, I would love to have a swing at it.
Appreciate that!
That’s high praise, sir, but I never considered anything I’ve ever done to be a remix. In my world, population 1, a remix is the producer’s equivalent to that of a cover song. The song is different but still recognizable, and not just by lyrics.
But i do like, “really solid composition made from found audio.” This really means something to me, especially coming from someone who is well-versed with the ancient art of Sketch Padding, such as yourself.
Yes! I love that “new and exciting” aspect of it. In this case, it began by taking a part of LL and running it through Spacecraft.
Thank you, and I’m so happy you got enjoyment out of this. I’m not sure what you mean exactly by, Have a swing at it. If you mean, lift parts of this song, have at it!
Sorry I didn’t reply sooner, I’ve been on a trip without my iPad or computer, I love this!! It’s really really nicely produced it’s exactly the kind of jungle I like, particularly the middle part
it’s a real trip and a real journey in sound. A “proper” song!!! I’m Jealous!!!!
No problem and thanks for listening. Since i couldn’t find your track creation in the forum search, I had to go by memory, and figured I tagged the wrong forum member. I’m glad you enjoyed it! It makes me feel good that you used the J word without me making any reference! Now I’ll edit the Title in case there are any heads out there.
I’m jealous that you went that long without devices!!
Fun fact @LinearLineman , out of wanting to respect your respect for Vangelis, my song title, Slang Vine, is an anagram of Vangelis.
Gosh, very interesting stuff. Thx for the resurrection! I’m curious about Baubie= Gaubie. What’s the difference between? Very good production values, too.
Really well done, I enjoyed this a lot! I've been thinking a lot about Jungle recently, as I've been reading Mark Fisher again. Probably the last real truly innovative leap in popular music (in the broadest sense of the word).
Thanks for your input, LL. Being that you were my muse for this, I truly appreciate it!
Regarding Gaubie, it is a nickname given by a close friend during adolescence –we enjoyed making up words and names. Gaubie stuck with me amongst most friends cause it simply sounded funny with how it was used.
When i had begun to release music on the webs, I chose the name Gaubie as a way to permanently remind myself not to take myself too seriously, that I’m not doing anything new or different. Just borrowing from our ancestors and continue to hope they speak to me. I’m just trying to better learn the language.
Regarding Baubie, dumb luck has it that Gaubie is a good name to have for a web search, cause the only other thing that comes up is Pont de la Gaubie in the French Pyrenees, lol. So i didn’t want to pollute
search results with forum posts. I later learned that it’s a variant of a girl’s name in Latin, and I’m cool with that.
Thank you, Gav. So glad you did 💙
Really enjoyed the bass in this one, nice to hear Mike’s music inspiring people and being reinterpreted 👍
Morning and it’s nice to hear the bass comment, @GeoTony , especially cause it’s the first time i got the sub bass portion of the song sitting ok in the mix. Sub seems easy to over or under-do. Glad you enjoyed the sandwich 😉
For the more Jungly C section, I created a hybrid approach. With GR2, I worked entirely with Song Mode while using Drambo’s sequencers and clip launcher. Drambo is doing all of the heavy lifting with the drums.
My Launchpad X is mapped to slices of the Amen and one other classic break that I currently don’t have an ID for. The breaks are on separate Flexi Modules nested inside a Layer container. If you’re familiar with Drambo, i modified “4 breaks” by ista from patchstorage. I also have the LPX mapped to patterns on Drambo’s clip launcher. Essentially I’m recording micro performances from my LPX to Drambo clips. Then i record clip launches to the GR2 time line from my LPX to flesh out the arrangement. For the A and B section, I simply chopped up the Amen and manually entered the chops into the Drambo sequencer.
I appreciate you for that. Made my day 👊.
Just as important, I listen to a lot of Jungle and simply enjoy the listening experience without trying to analyze too much. After a while you’ll feel the vibe and pick things up.
I don’t record much, but just like to play and experiment with Drambo on my phone.
I honestly haven’t watched many YT videos on the matter, cause then i find myself lusting after Renoise or a Polyend. My intention isn’t to recreate it faithfully, but to be inspired by it.
I also did all that without upgrading GR2 to the LPX integration version, because i was mid-project and didn’t want to risk breaking anything. So I’m looking forward to explore that feature with my next projects.
