I'm using Loopy Pro on an iPad. Was using a Behringer UMC404HD connected via USB hub to the iPad for my guitar, but it has stopped working and is not recognised by my iPad or MacBook anymore (which as far as I can tell isn't that uncommon).

I'd like something smaller that the Behringer, minimum two inputs, two outputs (possibly four), USB powered and fairly reliable. It will live on a pedalboard in a hardcase.

Unfortunately I am somewhat limited by budget. I was looking at the M-Audio M-Track Duo or possibly the Zoom UAC-232 (which I have found on sale for almost 50% off locally and also has the option of midi input/output). or the PreSonus AudioBox GO.

Any other suggestions?

Zoom u-22 built like a tank, phantom, AA or 5v powered. Compact with rca/1/4” and 35mm headphone outs as well as rca out for extra monitoring or processing If needed. MIDI din I/O

    I currently own 3 of these 😬

The only issue I can see is that the power switch is on the side so it may have to be on the left side of your board. But otherwise all the connections are on the top of the unit so very easy to access.

I'm looking for 2 x 1/4" inputs and outputs unfortunately. The u-24 looks like it could work though, plus it has the RCA out and midi as well.

  • I’ve used the iRig Pro Duo I/O. Two 1/4”+XLR combo inputs, 2 1/4” out, headphone out with monitoring, MIDI I/O. Battery powered, power source, or USB-C.

  • I would try a powered usb c hub look for pd (power deivery) then your behringer 404 should work.

It was running from a powered USB hub, but it’s not even being recognised by my MacBook either when it did in the past. I also had it plugged in with the supplied power supply and nothing. I think it’s kaput.

Unfortunately that’s way out of my price range at $300-400 in Australia, compared to the Zoom u-24 which is $99 on sale or the Zoom UAC232 which is $179 (all in Australian dollars).

Battery powered isn’t something I’m looking for, but USB powered is.

As long as it can hold up to live sets and be okay with distorted guitar, I don’t need fancy pre-amps.

  • I have a 404 too. It used to work on older iPads, with the camera connection kit. Now it is connected to a mac mini.
Was thinking about getting their 1820 for my iPad.

  • By the way maybe you just need a more powerfull charger.

Interesting. Comparing the UAC232 in the states and they’re both in the $170-200 range. In fact, the irig is cheaper on Sweetwater. Wonder why there’s such a big jump.

Is that the model you’re thinking of? There is a Quattro closer to $300-400.

I don’t doubt the prices are different in Australia. It’s just strange that here the irig is about $30 cheaper than UAC232 but twice as expensive over there.

The Zoom interfaces are both on sale, but yeah, the iRig is definitely more expensive here.

Was thinking about getting their 1820 for my iPad.

It turns on, but isn’t recognised by my iPad or MacBook, when it literally worked fine a few weeks ago. I’m using it with the same powered USB hub with my iPad and even tried with the supplied power supply, but nothing. Same with my MacBook. Tried multiple cables and same result. It doesn’t need any drivers for Mac, so that’s not the issue. Right now it’s sitting on my shelf until I can be bothered trying to fix it for home recording.

TBH, I was looking at a smaller interface for live shows anyway, and this has made me go down that path.

  • If you don’t need MIDI the Audient Evo 4. Hopefully you’ll find a used one cheap, but UK new price is ~£90. Sounds good, latency is low, has instrument inputs, fairly pedal-shaped.

  • I ended up getting the Zoom u-24. I have a Korg Volca, so the midi (and price) made me lean towards that.
