My iPad thinks Launchpad Mini is my keyboard, thus screen keyboard stops working (Help)

I usually don't have the mini connected (I have an Oxygen Pro 49) but with the GR2 integration I thought I'd give it a shot again.

Now, as soon as I plug the Mini in, I can't use the screen keys!? I've tried to find, in settings what the issue can be but can't figure it out.

Before, I had my Satechi BT keyboard I use for my Mac on a shortcut to use with my iDevices as well, but then this issue started (I've read other have the same but no solution) and I removed the short cuts and the bluetooth connection between. Screen keys started to work again (not always).

But, this is a first I see this issue caused when connecting LP mini 3.

Anyone know of a solution?
Or, can point me to some clues maybe, I've tried a whole bunch of various on and offs in settings but .. so far to no avail.

  • I have the same problem. On my iPad there is a little icon in the bottom right corner. It appears when an app expects text input. Tapping on it gives me the option to show the keyboard.

The Launchkey range can send keystrokes, which can be very handy, but does mean the iPad thinks it’s a qwerty keyboard - perhaps the launchpad does the same?

Same with my Launchkey 25 mini MK4.

Yeah I know but it's not there. I've even tried to sorta fool it buy using a floating keyboard but no. When I had this issue using the Satechi, sometimes, when the keyboard would show it would always force me to choose from a menu like, show keyboard, I think that's the same one you mean but it didn't show in the corner. > @zzrwood said:

Thanks guys, that's good to know and very possible cause. Question is if there's a solution?

  • I don't know if this will be any help or not, but it's been discussed before ...

  • Yeah I just checked (already had the latest). I've done some searching on the Novation forums but not found anything useful.
The only suggestion I saw was: 'keep BT devices far away from your iPad' I know that has some truth to it but it's not as easy as it sounds as BT is everywhere (phone, mac another iPad, foot controller ...)

I did a quick check on that other link you posted to see if there's something I can use.

It's an issue that comes and goes though, I've just played around in Koala and when I closed it. Keyboard is back. I know one can't rely on it, so a solution remain.

    Thanks wim!

I was doing some experiments in the iPad accessibility settings. Enabled some options, disabled some options and at some point the virtual keyboard worked even when the Launchkey was connected. But the problem is.....it's not working anymore and I do not know what setting triggered it 😒

Oh, don't you worry. I've done the same and thought I solved it just to see - no keyboard a moment later. We'll keep on digging 😀 I was thinking maybe it's worth contacting Novation but these big players are so damn hard to reach the correct person to ask.

I'm surprised that not more Novation users complain about this, or maybe the iPad isn't used much with this hardeare. But I'm going to try to contact Novation, you'll never know.....

  • Is this still an issue? If yes, do the following:
go to settings/general/keyboard and make shure „shortcuts“ is turned on.
This enables the little keyboard-icon in the lower right corner, as @catherder mentioned.
Works for me with a little numpad that is connected to my ipad.
    Cheers

Yes it is, I now have the usb-hub at close so I can disconnect any culprit if necessary but that is at least a workaround. Thank you!

Same issue here with a Launchkey MK4. I tried everything when I first got it last year, but never found a real solution so I eventually gave up and also resigned to using the shortcut button... but it's still a pain. Please let me know if you ever do stumble upon a solution.
