Well the explosion of subscriptions over the last year/s has made it a constant topic, I agree to a degree that it is tedious and non-productive but then again: I hate subscription!
Am I reading you as they are acceptable and if so, how many do you carry at the moment? Do you need that special app that keep track of all your subscriptions? (it exists).
There are of course more creative topics, like pointless color codes in Apematrix whatnot 😚😉
Comments seem closed on YT videos but I shook out this email: [email protected] from his info on YT. There it also states he is Russian, the C.A app is registered in Georgia so my mistake thinking he was ditto. Maybe avoiding draft for war, he seem young enough, so.
I haven't tried the email: getting tired of this chase.
You do the girlfriend and I do the wifey, huh!? (joke!)
There is always one
@gravytop
I think it has more to do with a general downturn in mobile music app appeal since Apple removed the headphone jack.
(ok there is my predictable forum fanboy response for you)
Wait a minute… it was a great thread, haha! 🤦♂️😅
Absolute! 100%
I'm sitting on one as well, to be released this autumn. Why does the nodes in AUM stop at P? 🙃
That’s the right material for a new full-blown debate and corresponding thread. 😂 The subscription theme became boring as hell.
I don’t have many subscriptions only one music app, Audulus 4. I like Cellular enough to sign up for two weeks free, can always cancel. $1.99 per month is acceptable for now. I’ve also paired back on social media engagement. This app intrigues me.
Didn’t realize there was a free trial period! I kinda need to find out what those sections you can’t access can do… thanks for the heads up!
Hi there. First of all, thank you for your interest in what I’m doing. Your feedback and comments always give me something to reflect on.
I work on music apps in my free time — mostly on weekends. On weekdays, after my main job, I study.
The decision to go with subscriptions came from the fact that I have many ideas for future features in Cellular, as well as for entirely new apps. One of them I’m already building in parallel — it’s a synthesizer that creates wavetable soundbanks based on the classification of everyday noise in the user’s environment. It analyzes the harmonic characteristics of that noise and uses them to color the resulting sound. The synth learns from whatever the user feeds into its input — and it might even become a part of Cellular down the line.
Broadly speaking, Apple’s API doesn’t allow for trial periods on one-time purchases, nor does it support “consumable” free products that could simulate a one-time trial version. So subscriptions are the only viable option.
I know Cellular can seem complex to someone unfamiliar with cellular automata. And I’m not a big company with the resources — like a private server — to build a custom trial flow outside of Apple’s ecosystem. So again, subscriptions it is.
I felt the current pricing — $1.99/month or $10.99/year (Apple adjusts this per country) — was reasonable. Two weeks of free access seemed like enough. But I’ve since realized that the text about the trial is often overlooked by users. On top of that, much of the app’s functionality is free anyway.
My thinking was: if people subscribe, that shows there’s interest in seeing the app grow — and Cellular is worth focusing on. If not, I’ll probably shift gears to something else. I’ve described the subscription model and future plans in more detail in the FAQ on the app’s page on my website. There’s also a section there on the possibility of a one-time purchase.
Thanks again for your interest and your feedback!
P.S.
No, I don’t live in a cave. I’m originally from Belarus and currently living in Tbilisi. I hope you never have to evacuate your family because of war.
Hi Valery! Thanks for joining!
And thanks for making this very interesting app!
My 5 cents: No matter how interesting, I would never consider a subscription for an app, but would buy your app for a one-time fee without a blink, if this was an option. Up to $20 I'd consider fair in this case. I really hope this will be an option in the future!
My guess would be, that this would give you more sales than the subscription model anyway - so I'd recommend skipping subscriptions entirely.
Instead, IAPs for additional features can be a fine solution. Like for instance in the great Tera Pro-app, where different engines can be unlocked as IAPs - and new ones have been added along the way by the developer. That way - from a user perspective - you do not pay for the promise of further features, but of the actual features when added. Mela Synth does something similar.
(PS. Living in Copenhagen, I can not even imaging how it is. All the best wishes for you and your family!)
Hey Valery,
So good to see you here and I hope you will be treated with respect even if you have chosen an payment option not many of us agree with.
Lets talk about the app instead, for now. 😃
Will you add host sync for the play/stop when used as an AuV3?* That's what I think is most important as of now.
Also, some kind of road map for the development of this particular project, I mean it's cool that you have another synth in the works but I'm curious to where C.S is going.
Best wishes to you and your family, as mentioned by catbox, (I'm in Sweden) we can't even imagine.
*you really should update the info at the app store so it says AuV3 supported, many potential buyers look for that. Also Midi in/out is a great feature not directly mentioned in the description.
Regarding sync, it seemed like this could be handled via MIDI. The documentation mentions that if you scrub the tempo slider (left–right), it switches to listening for external MIDI clock. But I have to admit I haven’t focused much on that yet — I’ll take a look.
There’s a development roadmap on the website in the FAQ section — it’s still a draft, but it’s there.
I’ll update the App Store description — thanks for pointing that out.
As for “getting through it,” we were actually lucky — it’s much harder for our relatives, on both sides of the front. Some live in Ukraine, some in Russia. That’s where things are truly rough.
I’m currently thinking through the monetization model and I’m sure I’ll settle on something final soon. You can follow the updates on my Telegram channel.
@ninobeatz Hiya, and sorry for tagging you out of the blue but have you seen/tried this app, has it been mentioned by you or @AliAhmet already on your FaceBook groups respectively?
If not, maybe you should(?)
Edit: typo.
Wow, not the most intuitive choice of implementation but, after some scrubbing back and forth I actually got it to work, it took me while but that's alright I guess. 🙃😅 I have yet to open the manual, my bad ☺️
You see that @EnvelopeFollower it was already there...
As for Telegram, nah it's not for me I don't use X or whatsapp or whatever they're called, I'm to old (63) for that shit. A lot of old people here. @Gavinski, 'our' tutorial wizard might be using Telegram but I'm not sure.
No problem.
Now I'm here too, so let's stay in touch.
hm. i can change the bpm (scrach left right to change the tempo) but that doesn't make it sync to the daw, it just change the tempo
i understand daw sync as a start stop sync also.
@ValeryMironov Good luck with your app, we already spoke on Youtube. I am with others that a subscription model will not work for me personally but I hope you work out a purchase model that will work for you (and us). This is the best place to be for getting in touch with your synth audience, we can testdrive and give ideas and suggestions. A warm welcome and best wishes.
Yes, I remember you. Thank you. We'll think of something.
What the heck - subscription is usually a hard pass, but just signed up for a year, purely off the tone of the dev’s posts here.
It does that, for me anyway. In AUM. Edit: You got to be close to the bpm you have but when you are it sort of "hooks" into it. I'm not saying it is a good method but, it is there.
nothing "hooking" here in cubasis loop mode
I gave it a good 5-10 minutes and nothing. I thought when it changes to white from green you were hooked but, not in Cubasis anyway. Sorry for the false advert (well, it does work in AUM so it's not a lie).
It's so boring so I'm not going to try in Logic or NS2 whatever.
@ValeryMironov Please check this and if possible make a better function for syncing to host.
I forgot to mention Ableton Link, is that on the radar to be added.
I think this is one of few releases where not @eylvy is demoing the app with a video. I miss that man.
Finally got the sample import to work after a few tries, a lot of fun but I have no clue what I'm doing. 🙃😜
Still need to watch some video and RTFM so, fault is mine. 🫥
Yes, we need an in depth review on this one, it’s a weird and interesting thing. The UI is minimalistic and nice looking. But I have no clue what I am doing
Ok
Hi, I’ve figured out how to combine subscriptions and one-time purchases. Over the weekend, I updated the subscription screen, added a one-time payment option, and sent it to Apple for review. After testing, I believe that within the next few weeks it will be possible to purchase full access as a one-time payment in addition to the subscription.
