Song Of The Month Club - August 2025
What is the Song of the Month Club?
It's a place where musicians come to give and receive feedback on their work. Anyone is welcome, whatever their level of ability.
The spirit of the club is to contribute: if you submit a song for others to comment on, you should also have the courtesy to listen to everyone else's contributions and give as much feedback as possible. Posting a track and not listening and commenting on others is not cool.
The purpose of feedback is to be honest. Essentially you should give your truthful impressions of the song, whether good or bad. Negative feedback, if done in the right spirit and with courtesy, can be the most useful and can help the artist to grow.
All submissions are welcome, don't hesitate if you want to contribute. We like all kinds of music and we are particularly fond of vocals (but of course we still love a great instrumental). If you are thinking of experimenting with vocals this is a good place to get started.
We ask that you only post one song per month in this thread - if you're lucky enough to be able to produce more, then please just submit your strongest material
And finally, iOS is not a requirement for posting here. If you've recorded your song using nothing but a ukulele and a Fostex 4 track, that's fine.

My entry for the month, lyrics in the spoiler:
The day you decided
It came down to you
It felt so one-sided
But what else could I do?
What you see
What I am
A fallible and fragile man
You couldn’t be persuaded
You never let me in
You always looked so jaded
And tired and thin
And so our lives are guided
By bolts out of the blue
And here here we are divided
There’s nothing I can do
What you see
What I am
A fallible and fragile man
You couldn’t be persuaded
You never let me in
You always looked so jaded
And tired and thin
I love the chorus, with eh "you always look so jaded, tired and thin" line immediately being a catchy earworm. I like the chord sequence and structure; I'm always impressed when something that on the surface appears to be simple is done so well; It's easy to mask lack of ideas with complexity (I do it all the time myself hahaha) but there's nowhere to hide if you get it wrong. You've pulled this one off with aplomb.
The verse vocals are nicely layered and atmospheric and evoke 90s indie nostalgia. The mix is nice and punchy and the vocals are nice and wet to give a more expansive sound.
I like this one a lot, one of my favourites of your recent output.
Here's my slab of electronica. Lyrics in the spoiler.
A. A-A-A-A. A-A-A. I.
Here you go.

I like it - has a touch of New Order about it
Strong song! Has a nice atmosphere to it.
Here's my attempt:
(Can't figure out how to embed it properly -sorry!)
This is a music track that I improvised on two MIDI keyboards connected to Bitwig Studio on a desktop PC. There the MIDI was routed to Solo for the cello, flute, oboe, and bassoon; Noire and Pianoteq for the piano; Jaeger for the singing voice; and Continua and Omnisphere for the background instruments.
After bringing the audio recording into Vegas Pro, I applied the Lurssen Mastering Console plug-in to the audio mix.
It's titled The Island.
To embed you can just post the link (copy and paste from the address bar):
This is a great song with a fantastic vocal. When the voice came in, it really grabbed me, wonderful falsetto singing. There is so much range to the vocal delivery, it really makes something special.
Welcome to the SOTMC, please post again, amazing work.
Sounds good; Is that you singing? I like the groove a lot; The build up to the final chorus is great too.
EDIT: Richard got there first.
Welcome back - it's been a while. I remember you contributing back in the early days of SOTMC ten years ago
This is a solid track but the arrangement could do with some more variety IMO - the pacing and delivery is very similar throughout.
If I was in the producer's chair I would suggest cutting some of the vocals to make them shorter and then add some instrumental parts with more varied dynamics. Other than that it's great.
As usual, I really like the atmosphere, and the sparse piano melody that fits right in with the vibe. There are lots of interesting sounds and textures as well, from the fluttering hats to the incidental noises in the stereo field.
Also, thanks for posting the lyrics 😅
I like the occasional moment of dissonance in an otherwise nice and meditative track.
Not posting because the tune is worthy of this thread. Its just a rambling pile a garbage really. I just felt like I'd finally achieved something, that being a project completed totally within the iPad. It took every ounce of power this poor iPad 9th Gen had. Initially I started in as a project in BAM but when that hit the CPU ceiling I had to mix down and take it to Cubasis for guitars and drum layering. Don't ask what my intentions were musically, I just kept layering until I figured out how BAM works.
BAM:

(internal sounds/devices plus, Anilog Auv3, Korg Gladstone, Module Pro, AudioLayer x2, iBassist)
Cubasis:
(One Shot for an extra layer of drums (mainly kick/snare), NamXT on 2 rhythm tracks, Mr Hector for the 2 guitar lead tracks)
“Rambling pile of garbage”? Your too modest. I’m not great with words like errybody else here but this slaps, dude. It just occurred to me “Rambling Pile of Garbage” is a great track name haha. But so is Wam Bam Thx Man! I got Buckethead vibes, but that weird side group he did with bootsie (and think bernie?) was that called praxis? That whole time of my life is a blur, but a comfy blur, kinda like your track! And I come from a “jamband background” I guess; sometimes you don’t want structure, ya want some rippin guitar and good vibes for longer than most people put up with. I hope this rambling made at least a lil sense. Thanks for Sharon!
I commented on this in your “lurker introduction” thread, so I won’t repeat…except for one thing. Your fuzz tone is magic and I need to know all your wizardry secrets! 🧙♂️
Saw the thumbnail but my brain didnt put the username together. Then the visualizer started and it clicked. Small f’in world… bout a year ago I was on the fence bout picking up TfxEcho and came across your demo video, bought the app immediately, been slowly lurking my way through your video catalog ever since. Your work is fantastic and so is that echo. Thank ya kindly 🤙
Fantastic performance!
Now, lower the expectation approach is my style as well but probably more true when I do it. Ha!
Nice track, and love the guitars extrrra much! Curious how it sounds when you're pleased with the result.
Difficult to find something to improve here. You squeezed the hell out of those 2 chords. Great vocals lines and lyrics nicely performed, and a musical bed well crafted and produced right in line with your beloved aesthetic. I agree with John. One of your best recent outputs!
Not much better when I'm pleased. I guess it's more that the mix is pretty bad and the one guitar takes have no real direction. I get more satisfaction when I plot a deliberate musical course.
Thanks @Squishy It made sense. I think I'll rename it to Rambling Pile of Garbage. Nice one
Great track. I really like the little sparse piano theme, it matches the track testily. As usual, the production sounds beyond criticism to me. The track is quite long but you manage to keep it interesting, which is not an easy task.
Btw, Thanks for the spoiler, I was not sure I heard well 🤭
Nice guitar tracks. Especially given how much delay and reverb there is it's a pretty nice mix. I thought the snare could be brought up a bit but as it is, the overall feel is a little more mellow I guess. I thought the verse vocal level should come up a bit as it seemed like a big jump from verse to chorus. Nice track, sounds a little wonky in the mix area but nice tracks that add up to a very cool, Paper Kites kind of thing.
Nice to eventually be able to associate some music with an old time member !
I like the tone of your lyrics. They sound playful and written from a child perspective. In a way they remind me a bit of Syd Barrett. There are a few guitar lines that are very well thought and performed 🎸👍
Sound wise it is well done, I haven't heard anything shocking. I agree with Richard that for now the track feels a bit monolithic in terms of dynamic and could benefit from giving it a bit more space for instrumentation between each vocals parts.
Hope you'll keep coming back and share more often here !
This one is up to your usual standard of production and there are some beautiful solo lines from the cello in particular. I'm a big fan of the cello, it is overshadowed by the violins in the orchestra sometimes but I think it sounds much nicer. The violin can be a raspy little bugger. The cello has more warmth and suits this style of track perfectly.
I have to agree with what the others have said; There are some really nice parts in this track and I like the slightly mellow Libertines style vocal a lot, it has bags of character which can be hard to find these days .
I would want to give the arrangement a bit of a nip and tuck structure wise to bring out the best in the track. Sometimes a relentless pace is just what the song needs, but sometimes a bit of a break where the listener can kind of take a breath and have some space before bringing the main elements back in can work wonders. I think I am guilty of massively overusing that technique though
Thanks @richardyot, @Jankun, @klownshed for taking the time to listen. This was my attempt to shake years of dust off and throw something out there. Had to dig back into my stash of old tunes because I’ve been on a dry spell for a long time. I agree with your take(s) that it (and future tunes) could use a little space and variety to spice things up. Nowadays with the ease of adding loops and snippets it should be easier now.
@richardyot - you’ve really amassed a long run of good guitar driven songs over the years and you’ve dialed in an awesome unique sound within that ‘90s indie space like @klownshed described. I loved this one.
@klownshed honestly, as an old fashioned dude I’ll often hear a song like “You can call me AI” and brush it off, but not this time. I found where you took things to be interesting and intriguing. I quite dug this one it went places I was hoping it would go, but not expecting it would. I like your ear. It kind of felt like I went out for a hamburger and had yummy donuts instead.
@Jankun your turn..
Outstanding guitar work and the end result is great fun to listen to.
Forgot about SotM after being away for a while (it's been that kind of year). Here's my addition for the month.
I recently jumped into the Arturia soft-synth world with a cross-grade purchase offer for V Collection 11 Intro (apparently, I had a filter plugin from something else long ago?) and their Summer Sale to also get Pigments. I presumably now have enough inspiring presets to keep me busy for quite a while.
This track is my first outing with the new collection of instruments, with all patches except the drums (which use Logic’s Drum Machine designer) coming from Arturia.
