Everything is flawless. I love the bitcrushing on the one synth, and the soft-but-punchy drums as well. Quite a beautiful piece overall.
Yeah, it's been a minute. How've you been, friend?
I’m liking the panning of the drums in headphones. I have a lot of questions but I will ask them as the thread rolls off the front page… hopefully in a day or two.
Thanks @jwmmakerofmusic!
I’ve been good.
You?
Thanks @McD.
Questions? I hope I have answers!
Fire away!
Same. Been good. Mostly working on beat-based music these days.
But hope to return to Ambient soon.
Nice. For some reason it reminds me of the theme from Midnight Express. Maybe it’s just the things I’m hearing over the top in my head. I just went back and revisited Sirocco. That one did pretty well. We got 672 plays. I’m good with that. Hope you are doing well.
What DAW did you use?
AUM.
Nice. What AUv3 apps are in this project? Did you save the “Session”… sometimes I forget to save and forget the apps I used.
Good to hear from you again! Made me think of a relaxed drive in some kind of futuristic car. Don’t know why that specific image came to mind, but it did.
Late to this, @rottencat, but I love it. Puts me in mind of Aphex Twin and Arovane and Four Tet and that kind of clever, gently warped half-ambient track. Take this with a grain of salt, but while I think the sounds are excellent, I wonder if you might try different arrangement techniques? The drums are right up my alley (very Thom Yorke), but I realized that they were sort of becoming wallpaper once they faded out. Denying the listener the drums actually creates tension; you might play with introducing long stretches without the rhythm track or slowly letting the different percussion elements slowly accrete? Just a thought.
Also (and this surely comes from a childhood in the 70s that filtered everything through the golden age of pop and might seem corny), what about an unexpected key change? Not all the instruments have to go there, but it might be cool after establisihing the song for many minutes in one key center to suddenly move somewhere else?
Not that you need to do anything! It's great.
I did save the session. Here’s what I used:
J6 Synth One
Bleass Tides
Other Desert Cities (3x)
midiDREAMs (2x)
midiGATEs
Nerd Synth
Attack Softener
Polyverse Wider
Hammerhead
FabFilter Twin 3
Pandualay
Bark Filter
and…
AUM.
Would you post a screenshot of the AUM session to see how you fit them together? It may take 2-3 images if there are a ton of channels. I think I own most of those apps. That would be a fun thread: list apps and share results in SoundCloud, Youtube or as AUM Session files (maybe placed in a zip file to get past the forum file rules).
That would be a fun thread! If you come up with something I’ll be very interested to hear it.
I think you missed listing one… 13 apps and 14 in the images. What is this one:
Nice to hear your soundscapes again cat. 😊
Not @rottencat but that’s Twin 3
Cool sounds btw
Thanks… I forgot FabFilter has a synth app.
Thanks very kindly!
Glad you finished it, glad I listened to it 🙏
Thank you very much @GeoTony!
