Monitor through settings

I often use count in and select an audio clip to record my guitar.
A common scenario has me recording successive small guitar parts to different color audio clips in succession.

It seems like it's often preferable to monitor through the color clip I'm recording to...I don't believe there's a setting to default to monitoring through the currently recording color, or not that I can find.

Otherwise, I often go in to the "monitor through" setting for the input channel and deselect the prior color and select the color that I'm going to record next.

Am I thinking about this the wrong way?

You might want to use buses for your effects as there isn’t a way with actions to change the color you monitor through. But you can achieve the same result with buses.

You could also create copies of your input : one copy per color target with monitor through color on. And create a switch so that only one is active at a time.

I'm facing the same challenge as the OP. I tried to go down the different copies for my input with different monitor colors. However, how can I create an action that allows for the relevant input to be selected (solo-ed effectively) when I select the clip in question? In my case, I've got a Next and Previous button that will select the Next or Previous clip, and I want to combine that with an action to then solo the input that's mapped to the currently selected clip (via color)

You could use the on select follow action to unmute the desired input.

  • Thanks! My challenge though is to find out which one. How can I define an action that "knows" which the currently selected clip is (and therefore knows what channel to solo)?

Add it as a clip-specific follow action. Or use a stepped dial or radio button group whose steps/buttons select clips and mute/unmute as needed
